It always hurts. It's the same every time, but it still hurts. The transformation isn't the worst part; but it's up there in the top five.

Listen to me, making this sound like a contest! It's not. The first time it happens, you think it's the most painful thing you've ever felt.

Wait. No, I won't start at the transformation. I should start with the bite.

Sure, we've all seen the movies. An attractive young man or woman is walking down a street in the suburbs late at night. They walk by a large bush or hedge. They're suddenly pulled in, and two seconds later, you hear them scream. You don't see the bite. You don't feel the pain.

But it's never like that. The streets we walked down weren't perfectly groomed. ****, they weren't even streets. Me and my brothers haunted alleys. And the attacker? The one who Bites? Their hair is never one color. Or clean. It takes too long. To clean it all, I mean.

The victims? Never pretty. Not even remotely good looking. The Bite? Let me tell you.

Never clean. Always blood and saliva everywhere. Never quick. There isn't a word for the pain you feel. You want to get away, sure, but can you? You know what it is. You know what you'll be. In a little while, you'll be like him.

That hurts too. Becoming one. About time I got here, right?

Growing the hair doesn't hurt. Your nails growing doesn't hurt either. What hurts, then? It's the bones growing, making you taller, while your ligaments screech in protest. It's your face elongating, while your nose flattens and tears. you'll spend the first full moon passed out. Everyone I know has. Covered in blood, sweat, and spit.

The next morning, it hits you. What has happened. What's to come. You check the calendar for the next full moon, and nothing else really matters anymore. Sure, you'll find others. they'll help you make sense of it all. But it still happens. Twelve times a year for the rest of your life. It doesn't seem like much.

Until you're a Werewolf.
