Chapter one

He awoke with fear running along his spine. He felt a since of loneliness and he was scared. Where could this feeling have come from? Why was he feeling this way? He stood about and faced the window. His dream almost felt like it was real. Like it happened. He opened his curtains and saw out, nothing but darkness. He panicked, and then remembered, he was underground. He turned to look at his clock, and he realized that it was mid afternoon. He stretched and yawned. “Time to look for survivors” he got Riley up and him and the dog ventured into the darkness.

Above ground, it was not hard to see that there was horrible damage, from the bombs, to the people trying to dig themselves out because of the bomb, people trying to rape, rob or even kill each other for a sign of water and comfort. The bodies of millions of people lay in the streets and He was sad to see them. Although he did not know, radiation radiated off of these people. This could be dangerous for him and Riley, but to him it doesn’t matter, he was alone. But he could not realize this in his head. All he could see was that he had to find a companion, besides his dog. But instead of looking for survivors he simply cleaned. He had dragged dead bodies around to a fire pit and burned them, but he was now beginning to run out of matches, and he hadn’t even put a dent in the mass of dead bodies. He knew that something big was going to happen. He knew that god had a plan for him. He would be the Almighty Tobias that saved every one, but there was no one to save. He shook his head and smiled to him self. Immaturity will get him no where at a time like this.

Around noon, Toby decided to look at the ocean. Because he was in California, this was not a hard task.. he sat with Riley and he some fruit cocktail and riley snacked on a piece of wood. As Toby looked at the ocean, he realized two important things. One: the water went from the funny brown color to the neon green, and two : the tide was dangerously high.
