The first rumour came as we hit the safest place in Seneca Park, the wide expanse of the Police Station, its magnificent green gardens stretched out across the west side of the station. A large rectangular granite tablet stood directly in front of the American Flag and the New York flag, the bases flanked by flowers, and their ivy tendrils grasping the sides of the tablet. It read "Seneca Park Police Force" followed by "12-7-1941, We remember those who stood at Pearl Harbor" in smaller letters. "Jonah, Jonah!" A girl's voice called him from behind. "Sadie!" Jonah called back. It was his "girlfriend". They approached eachother, Jonah hugged her tightly and she kissed him on the cheek. It was all disgusting to me. "I heard you stood up to Randy today. That was pretty brave." Sadie whispered loudly to him, and that was my exit. I kept on walking, and Jonah would have been happy that I did what I did. I couldn't hear them clearly but I kept taking looks back to see if they were kissing or not. I laughed to myself and turned on Magnolia St., the street where me and Jonah lived. Jonah caught up with me in a few minutes. He was shivering. "Whats wrong?" I asked him. "Henry, Henry, Henry... Everything is wrong." "What do you mean?" "Did you ever hear about the kid who Randy killed?" "Haha. Yeah right, Randy wouldn't kill somebody." "Sadie just told me, I'm serious. I guess Jean told her and Jean heard it from Sam, Randy's brother. Word is, his parents drove him to New York City and he dumped the body in Hudson Bay. She said the kid's name was Alex Ward." I shook off the dumb rumor and went seperate paths with Jonah. I changed into clothes and sat down to a dinner with my mom and dad. After dinner, I read one of my books until I had to brush my teeth and go to bed. That night I dreamed about Jonah, about Randy, and especially Alex Ward. I wondered what he looked like, why Randy killed him, how Randy killed him. These things particularly bothered me while I was sleeping, but I was thankful I was asleep, because then time moves alot quicker and then I can wake up and forget about everything.
