(The prequel to Elephant Dance Part 1, but it's the sequel. Figure that one out.)
To master time travel one must take the journey to the very centre of their soul. Literally. It's easier enough after you've done it once. True, the hole in your stomach never really recovers, but you get used to it. It can be fun sometimes.
He flew through the air, breaking the barrier of space and time. His top hat barely moving an inch. His new, recently purchased blue suede shoes, touched softly onto the sand as Thaddeus landed on the beach. The shoes had come at a discount price, bought in an op shop. A flying elephant doesn't really bring in the bacon these days.
The year was 1963. Beards were in, and hygiene was out. Five minutes ago Thaddeus had gotten a call on his mobile phone. He recognised the number, but the person had hung up before talking. It meant he had to go. It had ruined his holiday.
Isabelle had been a friend at Uni. In fact, they were the best of friends. She wasn't the brightest of the bunch, and she was destined to live in the forest, but she went alright. If you know what I mean.
Squinting at the ground, Thaddeus tried to pick out Isabelle amongst the dense collection of trees. She proved very difficult to find. Her camouflaged clothing hid her well. He found her sinking in a pit of quick sand.
"What should I say to her? It has been so long," Thaddeus thought to himself as he plummeted back to Earth. "I wonder if she has changed much. I wonder if she'll notice the weight I've put on."
In the corner of his eye, Thaddeus saw a group of natives rushing in on Isabelle's position. He tucked in his big floppy gray ears and flew faster, hoping to get to Isabelle first. With about 15000 feet left, Thaddeus hit some severe turbulence. Hitting turbulence is every flying elephant's worst nightmare. It threw him several kilometres off track, and he hit the ground rolling. The natives saw him at the very last minute, and couldn't escape. Their screams echoed throughout the forest.
Their bodies crushed under his immense weight. Red liquid was smeared all over Thaddeus's stomach. He seemed to slide forever. "When will I stop?" He thought to himself. A quick glance forward told him everything he needed to know. A tree stood menacingly in his path. Thaddeus tried to stop, but all he succeeded in doing was flipping himself into the air, and ruining his new blue suede shoes.
He landed at Isabelle's feet.
