When I come back from my unconscious realm; the first thing my eyes adjust to are a pair of silk legs...Carmelita's. Looking up at her, I'm greeted with a smile, and then she tells me that I've been out for three hours, but I'm not smiling back. So much for flying off into the sunset with her, I guess that's a dream now I'll never see. She asks me how I feel, and even though I feel pretty good considering I don't give back an answer. Keep um guessing is the only weapon I own right now, and if I wanna get out of this mess alive I'm gonna need to learn how to use that weapon pretty damn quick. I look around while I gather more of my senses and realize that we're now airborne, and that thought concerns me. Because if they wanted me dead I'd be dead already, and I almost wish I was. No, they have bigger plans for me, but as long as this bird is flapping her wings I have time to worry about that later. I turn to Carmelita and tell her I could really use that drink that she never did give me, only this time I say... without the pain. She laughs, and then whispers to me "I'm so sorry," I take this cordial opportunity and ask her the million dollar question..."why then? She's about to speak when the door to the mini bathroom opens; I turn to see, and then get the answer to that very question I just asked, and its zipping up... Santiago Gambrilas, the man himself.

          So what do I do?

Other than **** myself, absolutely nothing. He walks over to me and kneels down beside me. He grabs my chin with his thick leathery hand and turns my head to study the welt on the back side of it.

"Manny hit you pretty hard gringo, Lucky for Manny you came back to life."

He then moves over to Carmelita and begins to stroke her hair. I watch but I say nothing back. Mainly because I'm speechless, the Butcher of Barrios was standing right in front of me; the man I feared most, and while he continued to speak I continued to listen.

"So my friend, this is how you repay me. Steal my only love from under my nose, the love I hold so dear to my heart... my money," he says as he kneels back down and grabs my chin again, only this time squeezing my mouth hard along with it.

"Manny tells me it was close to four hundred thousand dollars my hombre loco. Then we have the little matter of my sweet Carmelita over there. She tells me you forced her to come with you. Perhaps I'll forgive you for that my hombre, because I'm not sure I'm ready to buy her pretty little story quite yet, perhaps she'll persuade me to do so in a little bit."  He says as he glances over to her.

I watch as he winks and smiles at her. At that time he flashes his gold tooth and I remember at the moment why I hate this man so, his arrogance. Carmelita says nothing back to him, and I can see that she's just afraid of him as me, maybe even more so. He tells me to get up and I'm surprised that my hands aren't tied, but I'm not about to ask him why. Because you see, it really doesn't matter that there not, cause I'm not about to do something stupid, that is... just yet.

         So what's my next move?

I'm not sure; maybe that something stupid. Cause my situation looks hopeless and I have a queasy feeling in my gut. But then a glimmer of hope poses itself in the shape of a bad mistake. Santiago turns his head and yells something to Manny the midgetMan in the front of the Cessna and I see my moment, and now... its time for that something stupid. I grab him from behind and push him up against the wall of the plane, but he's quick and he's strong, too strong. He throws me off and sends me through the open door of the mini bathroom with little effort. Oddly, I land as if sitting down on the toilet. But before I could get my ass back off the toilet he was standing there in front of me. I tell him "next time, do me the favor and spray ok," but he's not laughing, but then I really didn't think he would. Instead he just grabs me and throws me out of the mini bathroom and back out onto the floor. He grabs his gun and points it at my belly. I close my eyes and wait for that queasy feeling I had a moment earlier in my gut to get even worst, and then it does...turbulence.

          So I'm pretty lucky huh?

Not really, cause I'm also on that damn plane, and the one thing I hate more then dying is flying, and right now I'm doing a little of both. The first jolt sends me and Santiago about a foot off the floor; then back down hard as the plane settles again, and I wince in pain. But the second jolt isn't as friendly and it sends us crashing into the ceiling and then back down even harder. As we hit hard he looses control of his gun and it's out of arms reach. So you must be thinking about now that it's my lucky day huh? Well, not really, because you see; I can't move. But it's not because of the unfriendly jolts necessarily, it's simply because Santiago has landed on top of me. But before he reaches for another gun to finish the job off; the same gun he had just lost seconds earlier is being clicked at the back of his head... and it's Carmelita to the rescue. As she takes his other gun away she tells us both, "You know guys, they tell you never to take off your seatbelts during a rocky flight," she says rather smugly and adds a "tsk tsk... what a damn shame," at the end of it all. Typical broad, always gotta rub your face in it. But before she could pull the trigger and end all games, another clicking sound was heard, and with it came a husky voice.

           Manny the MidgetMan.

Think again. As we all look over to the husky voice we see the man who earlier was running for his life, but now is running the show... the pilot of the craft. In almost comic fashion we all speak at once, "who's flying the damn plane." He answers back in Clint Eastwood style, "well, it certainly ain't that dead midget in there." He then tells the three of us to move to the back of the plane, and as our backs are turned to him; a shot rings out in the cabin. It sounds like a cannon as I feel the warm brains of Santiago running down the back of my neck. Carmelita screams out and I wanna join in. But I remember what I told myself earlier that day back on the ground... and I'm staying cool.

So how long can I stay cool?

As long as he's got a gun on me I can stay cool all day, but I might not have to. I hear him rustling with some things behind me and I wanna look, but I see the body of Santiago slumped over the chair and I think again. The pilot holding the cards is a crazy man, but then I think to myself, aren't we all. I never figured in the end that I'd be done in by a middle aged average income family man. But I also figured that I could trust this woman next to me. I guess in the end you can really only trust yourself. It's time I make a move. Die or die trying I say to myself... It's the mafia creed. I'm about to turn and make that move when the door to the Cessna opens, and before I could blink the son of a ***** jumps with the cash and the only parachute.

So who (is) flying the plane?

Well, certainly not the woman who's running up and down the isle in hysterics. So I guess I'll have to put my mafia creed back to good use, die or die trying. I take a seat at the controls and Carmelita sits in the chair next to me. I take a quick look at the controls and notice that's it's in auto pilot, and it's locked in, but I have no clue how to take it out. I look over to Carmelita for any suggestion, but she has none. I then look down at the fuel gauge and see that it's red lining on empty. At that moment; Carmelita and I looked into each others eyes, and we both burst into laughter. Certainly not because our situation is funny, but because we knew we were both ******. We finally settle back down to mere silence as we sit there looking straight ahead through the window that's in front of us. We see the sun setting out into the deep horizon and I have to chuckle to myself at the irony of it all, cause my dream was actually coming true...

I was flying off into the sunset with my sweet Carmelita.

to be continued...

Fitting finale

This is it. So finally he meets the boss. The boss doesn't look too happy with him pinching the money and the wife. Some man, this! But the ending is superb. He desired a sunset walk and he gets it with Carmelita. What else can a dying man wish for. It's his dream come true. A fitting finale.

Rollercoaster

All Indiana Jones up to the point where you were supposed to let them bail out on the inflatable.

What the hell are you going to do with them? Has to be some way out!

This was a red hot romp of a story - all action from start to finish(?).

You MUST find a way out.......

excellent

great story. i can't remember a better combination of violence and humor. great job, a few typos though, but this story is simply too good to be spoiled by them.

'Carmelita say's nothing back to him' apostraphe in 'says'

'I winch in pain' should be wince

'he looses control his gun' need an 'of'

Whoa, this was action-fastic! I just love this series and do not want it to end. Maybe they crash in the ocean and SOMEHOW survive, and find themself on a deserted island where they meet a whole group of MidgetMen. An African tribe who has a life long dream of being members of the Blue Men Group.

Keep 'em comin!

Waiting for more ...

Well, the situation is still not hopeless. So long as this guy keeps talking, he's alive. Of course they are both hysterical now, but not gone gaga. You have kept them alive, at least he must live. Many years ago, I saw an Indian movie where the pilot flying the plane didn't know how to fly! Of course, the situation was quite different there -- he was the good guy and they helped him land by giving instructions from base. Not too convincing. Waiting to hear what happens next.
