Here i am for the third day running sat in the large back field of eatonu. watching sheep again.

I told old man brody " why do you want me to do this, sheep have been going missing for years in eatonu, then one day you decide you want me to stay here like a god damned scarecrow making sure no big bad wolf steals your sheep", but he just looked at me with that I KNOW BEST look on his old weathered face, turned around and marched of towards the last supper pub.

Stupid old man, stupid sheep, stupid field

The rock i sat on was hard and damp making my left cheek go numb. Stupid bloody rock.

A scream came from behind me, snapping my mind from the day dream.

It came from the dark woods that were casting an earie creature like shadow over the small flock of sheep.

Again a scream, this time from even closer. My dad always said never to go in the woods alone, but he also told me to help them in need and never be afraid.

I moved to the edge of the woods, peering into the darkness, seeing shadows flickering around, then up ahead moving through the bushes i saw two hunched shapes move at speed in and out of the trees.

A scream, a childs scream, came from the same place that the shapes were. Before i knew it i was following them deeper into the woods, making sure not to make a sound.

I came to a steep hill littered with old dead trees just as the dark shapes vanished over the top. Being carefull not to fall i made my way up using the trees protruding roots as makeshift steps. my palms were sweaty and my groin had shriveled inside me, knowing that there were no good times ahead. no sounds at all now, just the sound of my heart beating a tune in my head. Thump, Thump, Thump.......

It felt good to get to the top, all i could see was trees stretching out for miles, the tops swaying and blowing in a kind of hypnotic dance. To my right was a small cliff face. protruding out of it was also a face, a giant face.

It was made of rock, its eyebrows jutting out casting dark shadowy eyes below, a long thick pillar was the nose, and underneath that the rock formed at a point like a pursed top lip. Under the lip was a large dark O that formed a mouth.

Hanging over the cliff edge was moss and bushes acting as its long floppy hair. pointing out towards the sky were two old dead trees that formed a scary looking pair of horns.

A scream again, this time like the scream of a child longing for a mothers loving embrace. It came from the mouth, but this was no mouth at all, it was an entrance to a cave.

Slowly i moved in feeling the eyes of the rock face watching me, willing me to enter.

A smell came from within, a sickening smell that stung my nostrels. I had smelled the same thing when old man brody found one of his cattle sliced open on the corn feild. it was the smell of guts and blood, it was the smell of death.

I stepped into the mouth, feeling my way through the pitch black i moved along a thin tunnel untill up ahead i could see light shining in from high above. closer and closer i moved in, the light was now like a stage spotlight shining down on the star of the show.

But there was no star here, just a small girl curled up holding a teddy bear to her chest. sobbing tears of pain and gently rocking back and forth.

I couldnt move any closer as fear had gripped me from deep inside, my heart beat faster, my head dizzy with the constant Thump, Thump, Thump.

A growl, manacing and controlled came from a hole just above the girl, she looked up in fear with big scared blue eyes. Then slowly a hand came from the hole, reaching out with stretched claws. Its face emerged white as snow and coverd in scars, skull like features with only sealed slits for eyes, two holes for a nose and its wide grinning mouth with spike like teeth dribbled bloody spit over the girls shaking body.

Still i was unable to move as its four talon like fingers snatched the girl up by the hair lifting her into the hole.

A scream of fear came from the little angel as she left the light. Then there was no more little girl now, just a teddy bear slowly vanishing into the dark.

"move, help her. its time to stand tall and help, be a man". My fathers voice seemed to echo in my head as heat swept through my body, i lunged towards the hole with clawed hand stretched out, reaching into the cold darkness, feeling something soft and furry.

I pulled my arm from the hole still clutching the teddy bear, one button eye staring at me, like it was sad with loss, one arm missing at the shoulder , stuffing forcing its way out of the torn stiches.

I turned an ran. All i could hear as i stumbled down the tunnell was a growling and strange laughter. But there was the other noise, like flesh being torn from bone, and blood splashing onto hard floor , grinding and gnashing of sharp teeth.

I could see the light of the entrance now, but i couldnt help think that the face would clamp its mouth down, keeping me in here for an eternity to listen to the horrible creatures feasting on the little angel.

I reached the end and leapt from the faces gaping mouth, my eyes stinging and blurry from the suns rays that were shooting through the trees overhead, scorching the ground with its bright yellows and greens .

Clutching the teddy bear to my chest i ran back towards the village of eatonu, ready to tell the world about the creatures inside the devils gaping mouth. faster and faster i ran. no more crunching and ripping noises in my head, just my heart playing the same old tune. Thump, Thump, Thump................
