A skeletal figure cloaked in black,

A scythe in my right hand;

These are the images you draw of me,

But the truth too few understand.

The fact of the matter will be much more disturbing,

To all who try to define me

When they see me atop my great, pale horse,

Dragging hell very close behind me.

Do you doubt the truth to what I claim?

Then act quick, before it's too late!

Open your Bible to the very last book,

Revelation chapter six, verse eight.

ahhh, how lovely, a victim of poetic peer pressure! A poem of feeling, but what are you feeling, are you preaching or are you one of the Horsemen? stretch it out, define it more, its a good start

I calls it "nonfiction, nonemotional, nonpreachy, I-wanna-play-too" poetry. Just trying to outdo the other "Death" poems. Probably not gonna happen. Probably gonna go ahead and delete this one after a few days.

Hey don't delete this it as kinda creepy. And hey every one is invited to write a death poem. Because as writers we each have a different view in life so when everyone writes a poem about the same thing we will still be shocked and amazed at what comes out.

Amatayo said one of the best things ever. I never delete or throw away anything i've ever written, one day i may look at it and see the diamond it is among the rocks, and if not, hey, i know how i felt about something at one point in my life and i can work from there.

Brandon your poem very well. I think referance to the bible thew it slightly out of key, but maybe thats just me. WB Yeats writes that man created death:

'Nor dread nor hope attend

A dying animal;

A man awaits his end

Dreading and hoping all;

Many times he died,

Many times rose again.

A great man in his pride

Confronting murderous men

Casts derision upon

Supersession of breath;

He knows death to the bone

Man has created death.'

Wow. That's a pretty cool poem. The fact of the matter is, I wrote mine in a half an hour, as kind of a joke, because there were already three poems called "Death" floating around out there, so why not have me write one, too. I know that I can do better than this one- it was hastily thrown together. If I had spent any significant amount of time on it, I'd keep it.

Revelation 6:8

Just in case anyone was wondering: Revelation 6:8(NIV)I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine, and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

I thought this was the best of the 'Death' poems :) Great job

This poem makes me wanna listen to Johny Cash's When the Man Comes Around. Which isn't a bad thing.

Very good. I allways see death as a character as hard to understand, so many people dying every second of the day, he would need santa clause powers to visit each one to take them to heaven or hell, (Or whatever deaths job is supposed to be). Good work exploring death through poetry.
