Well conveyed, you get across the pain of having to endure double standards against you really well.
Think maybe there could be another stanza going into more detail answering "Do they think that doesn't hurt?" giving a little insight into exactly what effect it has. Not openly describing it, but just vague sketches of general feelings, and let the reader fill in the blanks. But it works as it is. + Report this comment

It's amazing how prejudice runs both ways. This is a good poem. Is it the supposedly "religious" that are outcasting the narrator, or just society in general? + Report this comment

I wrote this poem to describe my experience with SOME people who talk about tolerance and accepting people for who they are, but refuse to accept me for my belief in Christ. I don't even think some of them know they are being hypocrites, but I also know from experience that some people who claim to be people of faith can be just as hypocritical. thanks for the comments! =] + Report this comment

Thank you for sharing some personal feelings. I am not religious, and try to judge peole as I meet them. I think christians are generally nice, open hearted people. Not always, but hey people are people + Report this comment

You raise a good point--many liberals who push acceptance as an agenda simply cannot tolerate the religious right. I think I'd rather see this question raised in a personal essay or a story, though--for me, it just doesn't suit a poem. Too sing-songy with the rhyme scheme. + Report this comment

You have to remember how rabidly intolerant the religious right is. Of course it is always wrong to generalize, one has to make sure to judge individuals as they meet them, not from the groups they associate with. I am an atheist myself, but i have no problem with faith. Just with the logic of the faithful :) + Report this comment

I liked this! I think your message appeals to a lot of people, myself included. I liked the way it was written and it kept me reading until the very end, good read! + Report this comment
