While on their way above the toll booth Geoffrey, who also had keen eyes though not as keen as Kisha's, saw a huge bird. It was like a hawk only ten times bigger. Things used to be bigger in this land. Giants used to live in the land around here and only the brave would venture near in that time. But as the world started expanding and people got brave enough to venture away from their homes the giants felt that it was too hard always having pesky, tiny, creatures under foot. They went up into their cities in the sky. They were hidden well so that it would be hard to find them. The hawk must have wandered down from a giant town in the sky. It was coming after them now and Geoffrey would have to fly fast to escape it. He decided he would try to lose it by flying low near the trees below. "Kisha, you had better hold tight for there is a giant falcon coming upon us and I would not want to drop you." As he felt Kisha getting a better grip he dove toward the trees. The hawk was still following them. He dove into the trees a little and came back out but the hawk was still back there. He raced on for a little more and suddenly realized that the hawk was beginning to go down into the forest. "What is he doing Geoffrey?" Kisha wanted to know "It is a she, and I do not know what she is doing," Geoffrey was quite baffled. "Let's follow her." "It could be a trap and get us into a lot of trouble." "I don't care. I am curious to see what she is doing." And so Geoffrey started to descend into the forest below. They got nearly to the bottom when they spotted a woman beside the hawk that had chased them. The woman appeared to be of human decent. She had brown hair that was tied up in a pony tail and looked to be about five feet. Kisha thought that the woman was probably younger than herself. "Is that your falcon?" Kisha asked the woman. "I have raised the thing. I found it when it was a little feeble baby. Now it has grown into a big hawk but I am still quite attached to it and it to me. Is that your dragon?" "No, Geoffrey is his own dragon. He is free to leave whenever he wants. I would not want to hold him against his will. My name is Kisha." "I am Gertrude. My hawks name is Patricia." "Nice to meet you both. I am a little lost, do you know in which direction the nearest town is?" "It is that way," she pointed with her hand. "If you do not mind I shall accompany you." "I do not mind. Do you mind Geoffrey?" "No not at all, Will you be riding me?" Geoffrey decided that, truthfully, he might mind if he had more weight to carry but he could bear it. "No, Patricia is fully capable of carrying me if you would like to take to the sky but I would favor walking." "Well I guess we can," Kisha said. Although completely capable of walking she preferred to ride Geoffrey. "Are you ready to go?" "Soon, first I must find Hoppy. He should be around here somewhere. You wait here, I'll be right back." Gertrude went looking for Hoppy and calling out his names. Soon she was back with a rabbit. "Kisha this is Hoppy," she said and pointed at the rabbit. "Are you ready now?" "Yes, I am ready now" So they started off. Kisha was quite happy to be out and about on the beautiful sunny afternoon. As they were walking along Kisha started wondering what they would do to get money. "Geoffrey, what shall we do to get money?" "We could try our circus act again but it did not go over well last time." He said it in a joking way. "I think that that would be a wonderful idea to try." Gertrude, who had been listening the whole time, asked, "What are you talking about?" "Oh," Kisha replied a little startled because she had forgotten about Gertrude's presence, "We've just been acting as a traveling circus trying to earn money." "So what is a wood elf going to do with money? Your people normally like living away from people even before they started disappearing." Kisha reached for her hood. It was still on. She had not the faintest idea how Gertrude knew she was an elf. "How did you know that I am a wood elf?" "You still have to answer my question. What do you need money for?" "Well, fine then, we shall have our secrets. Would you like to join our circus we could probably get ever so much more money with your animals in it too." "If my animals do not mind than I don't. But I am not sure how they will take so many people staring at them." They walked on in silence staring at the sunny day around them until they got to the town. Copyright 2008 Lily Qwert |
