A sodden Salvation Armyman drunk and proud
he's just another elegantly wasted young man
You don't need to bring a fistful of cash
We've got nothing for anyone to sell

Running and screaming down the endless suburban streets
disturbing the sleep of those just waiting to die
Maybe I'll never be what I want to feel like
But anything's better than where I came from

Bloodshot half-closed eyes atop a half-smile
Giggling at the seriousness of the offical lies
green eyes, you only ever make me blue
suppose it's a change from seeing red

Our night draws to a close just before morn
Even the beds have all stopped shaking
and the dawn is bringing you a new hangover
perfect for the cold light of a new day

Morning always breaks and night always falls
Why should the passage of time be so violent?
my days pass away and the night seems stillborn
This seems to be nothing but death dressed up as life

I read this as another 'story in poetry format'. I liked the comparisons you used; I think you really painted a good picture.

Didn't quite see what was going on, maybe because I'm not drunk. The poem seems restless, yet not going anywhere. But maybe that just explains the character?

I am not to sure what was happening. I think this was some one during a war but then it was not really descriptive. All in all I really found this one hard to read.
