Empty Conquest

While life within for a time passes away
I see there's nowhere left to hide
From the ugly monsters that keep
Surfacing within the pretentious depths
Of yesterday's inner-most calm

As I am easily emptied into the forgotten
Along with the moments I had spent getting lost
And the whimpers of loneliness
Forming comfort for sorrow's abyss

I realize it is in these screaming voids
That love's reflection of an orb trapped
Drowning beneath my sea's surface
Is where I had mistaken tranquility with
Another naive dreamer crying alone

So now with my soul left hollow by the
Disillusioning effects of reality
Even the haunted shadows of pain
Calling out to the cold of night
To conquest all the corners of the world
Have become vulnerable in my nestled darkness

At first read Anna this evokes insecurity at the loss of a denial.

I feel that I will be pleasantly irritated for some time with this poem.

Clues welcome?

Very good. Not for the average poem reader. This one must be read a couple times to feel the effect, but each time it brings me to a darker place; yet, you seem to make even the dark places appealing.
