Kisha was a lovely elf in the eyes of man. But she was really just an ordinary elf. Normally she walked around wearing a hood, so no one could see her pointy ears. Her hood made her look more like a human, she did not want to be something special, or get more attention then any normal human, she didn't want any special treatment. Geoffrey was a blue dragon. He could breathe fire quite magnificently. Kisha always loved watching him make shapes out of his fire. It took years for Geoffrey to perfect it and he was still working on it. They didn't know where they were going; they just were wandering around the country side as a traveling circus. They didn't really have, or want, a home. Kisha would have been living with her family except that they were all hiding from the human race, and she refused to go into hiding with them. She wanted adventure, and to see the world. Not go into hiding and never go anywhere outside her home. Geoffrey wanted to be with Kisha. They were friends and he didn't really care were they went he always wanted to be with Kisha. He was also convinced she needed him for protection, whether she knew it or not. She knew too little about the world to be roaming about on her own. They were traveling along with Geoffrey doing his little fire shaping bit while Kisha watched with glee. Suddenly they saw some fire coming from some bushes nearby. Kisha went to check and found another dragon. He was a green dragon. She was greatly surprised to see another dragon peering at them from behind the bush. She hardly ever saw dragons, other than Geoffrey, any more and she missed playing with then. But what was even more surprising was that the dragon had a fire going beside him. That's were they saw the fire coming from. "Hello, we saw your fire, and I was wondering, why a dragon would need a fire?" Kisha asked. "Because I am not completely a dragon," the stranger replied. "What do you mean? I am pretty sure I see a dragon in front of me." Kisha was quite baffled. "I mean you see a dragon in front of you now but I am a shape shifter. Which means I can be a dragon now," as he was saying this he switched forms to a human, "and a human as yourself next time you look." Kisha was very astonished to see a human in front of her and no longer the dragon that had been there. "Wow, that's amazing! But you are wrong I am not a human." "What do you mean? I am pretty sure I see a human in front of me, and you would not be a shape shifter, for shape shifters are built into human form when they begin their life, I consider myself mostly human" "I am an elf," and with this she pulled down her hood to reveal her pointy ears. "You say you are born human form are all humans shape shifters?" "Well I am very sorry but you looked human to me, and no, not all humans are shape shifters only a very few." "Oh you needn't be sorry, for the cloak is to make me look more human; elves are not always welcome anymore." She was rather sad that her kind was not always welcome because she would like to be with her kind playing about in the forest. But instead of going into hiding, she would much rather have thrilling adventures. "Where are you headed?" "We're not really headed for any destination. I was just traveling with Geoffrey." "Who is Geoffrey?" "He is a dragon. That is why I was very interested to see another dragon in the bushes. We don't really see much of Geoffrey's kind anymore." Kisha said this rather wistfully because she missed the sight of dragons. After Kisha had said that the stranger turned back into a dragon. "If you want me to be a dragon then that I shall be." He said it a little jokingly but he was serious. "I want you to be whatever it is you want to turn to. Would you like to join us in our circus?" She thought that he would be a great attraction. "Who is in this circus?" "Just me and Geoffrey" "That is a rather small circus but I don't really have anything else to engage myself in at the moment, so yes, I'll join you're circus. What shall I do in it?" "Oh it really doesn't matter. It's not very organized it's just an act we do to earn some money. The fact that they will be able to see a dragon gets people to pay money." "Okay, I'll try to think of something to do." "You're a shape shifter, just shift shapes." "That might work." He changed back to a human at this point and he looked strangely familiar to her. She hadn't a shadow of an idea why. "What is your name?" She thought she might recognize the name. "You really needn't know. You may call me Bob." "Well if you don't want to tell me your name I can't make you. My name is Kisha." "Well hello Kisha. A name is only what you call someone, and you may call me Bob." "When you turn to something can you change your looks, like can you look like a different human than you do now, or are they always the same?" If he would offer this information she could know if he just looked like someone she had seen before. "No, we always look the same in the kind of animal we are. When in human form I will always look like this. It is as if we are in the form we would have been born in if we had always been the animal." "Well we should get going now and find some supper. You may join us and our circus if you like though." "I think I shall join you." "I saw an apple tree earlier. We can go back and look for that." "Well than, lead the way." And so they set off to find the apple tree and look for some fresh water. Kisha awoke the next morning. She thought about awakening Geoffrey for breakfast but decided against it. She walked over to the apple tree which they had camped beside the previous night and picked one of its apples. Kisha didn't think that she would like to eat apples for the rest of her life so she decided to go to town that afternoon and work for some food. After Geoffrey and Bob awoke Kisha told them that she was going to town to get some food. "Would any of you strong men like to accompany me to town to get some food?" "I think that it would be best for me to stay and guard the camp." Bob replied rather quickly. "Would you like to accompany me Geoffrey?" Kisha wanted some company but she would go alone if she had to. "I think I would rather search for my own meat, It is so much better when it is fresh." "Fine then, I shall go by myself." "Are you really sure we need any food? I mean, don't we have enough food here in the forest?" Bob said. He seemed a little nervous. Kisha really didn't know why or what he was trying to hide. "Well... We might not need food but I would like some meat. And we don't have the best of tents considering I don't have any. It doesn't look like you have any either. If it ever starts to rain out here I think I'd rather keep dry." "Well the closest town is about three miles to the north. At a good pace you could be there in about an hour or two. I'll be waiting around here." "Fine then, I'll just go by myself... walking! Goodbye Geoffrey." "Alright, Alright, I'll fly you," Geoffrey answered. He knew what she was hinting at. "Geoffrey, I said that I would walk and I would have but I accept your offer. I'd rather have you fly me." "I do all the work." "You don't think it's work to hold on tight?" "No!" "I'm offended!" "That's fine by me. But I'm ready to go whenever you are." "Well than let's be off." "Hop on and make an effort to hold on tight." "I'll work hard at that," she said as she was getting on. They got to town sooner than she would have walking with Geoffrey flying her. They decided that Kisha would go into town and Geoffrey would stay outside town and hunt for ‘fresher' meat while keeping a bit of a watch out for Kisha. Kisha would buy her own meat. It may not be as fresh but at least it was not covered in blood. Copyright 2008 Lily Qwert |
