Sitting alone on the last train of the night
sitting waiting for the conductor to go
door slides shut then switchblade slips out
quick movement and he's facing the seat.

Licks his lips, then begins -

First a stab, into the heart of the softness
pulls it out and then slash
a ripped line opens
slash and slash again
the material a little falls out
and now it's slashing wildly
shredding near noiselessely
a substitute for all the things
that hang heavy over his head
slashing
the dysfunctional family home
slashing
the denial of his feelings
slashing
the people looking down on him
slashing
when alone amidst lovers and couples
slashing
dark thoughts and voices in the night
slashing
the perpertual sense of being wrong
slashing
being told "you'll never amount to anything"
slashing
everything and everyone

Stop.
sit back,the seat's unrecognizable.
a few loose pieces drift to the floor
the violence gives him silence and he is stable
this catharsis leaves him breathless and more.

Later he sneaks off the train and steals into darkness
sparks up a joint, the light reflecting shining eyes
perhaps he should give in,surrender and confess
briefly the overgrown boy finds no security in his lies
his idols, his heroes, the night-fighting in the street
for once exposed as being it's true worth;nothing
then he inhales and his lungs fill with smoke and heat
in the bloodstream and then in veins it is rushing

Things are rendered beautiful
though he cannot really stand too straight
he can't help but smile,an innocent smile
of some uncertain happiness
smiling into the black
chemical good cheer goes out into the night.
