The pink Volkswagen Beetle was easily noticeable from afar, it was parked on the picnic viewpoint known as Bessie Belle, from up here you could see a lot, it was the highest point in the whole county, the Sperrin Mountains, Maggie’s farm and King Doyle’s abandoned castle were just a few of the distant sights. From any of these places i'm sure the pink Beetle was visible, but it was only when you got closer that you were able to see the couple within and hear the music.

“Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.
” Sang the radio.

Inside the car, in the two front seats, were two girls, listening, staring out the cloudy windscreen.
“I’m nervous.” Said Becky, who was in the passenger seat. She was holding a half-drunk bottle of cheap vodka, she was young, too young to understand the rules of the world, her mother had told her recently. She was a Goth, dressed in black clothes and make-up, with facial piercings, like a ******* vampire, her father had told her recently.
“Don’t be.” Replied Sam, who was in the driver’s seat. “It’s only natural to have nerves, you’re being very brave.” Sam was a little older and a littlie wiser than Becky. She was not a Goth, she used to listen to Nirvana and she cried for days when Kurt Cobain died, she smoked pot, dressed in rags and wore no make-up, she’s not like other girls, she had recently shouted at her mother, her father was long dead.

“Temptation's page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover
That you'd just be
One more person crying
.”

“Ma always told me this was a sin, that I’d go to straight to hell” Said Becky. Her stare never left the scenery out the window as she sipped the vodka.
“Your Ma’s a hypocrite, she’s had her ears pierced all her life but slapped you for piercing your lip? I think if it feels right then you should do it” Said Sam, as she laid her hand Becky’s knee. “I know it feels right for me.” Becky turned her head as Sam leaned toward her, lips first, her eyes not closed. Sam planted her lips on Becky, Becky just took it, she didn’t resist but she didn’t encourage, it wasn’t the most passionate kiss between two girls.

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much
Is really sacred.

Sam pulled back, as if disappointed. Becky turned her attention again out the window, not that there was much to look at. Sam just looked disappointed.

An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it.

“You think you belong here? You think you and me belong here? In this little bumpkin town? With these idiots? We don’t belong here, Becks. We weren’t supposed to live here in this place, in this state, it’s a ******* joke. All of it! ******* bull-shit!” Becky was unresponsive; Sam lowered her tone. “I need you babe, I need you to come with me, I cant go alone, I know it is meant to be, it’ll suit you so much, don’t deny your fate.” Becky looked at Sam with curiosity. She took a hard swig of the vodka and winced at the burn. Sam rubbed Beck’s throat for a second before leaning forward for another kiss.

You lose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand with nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
That somebody thinks
They really found you.

Sam’s eyes stayed closed this time, as did Becky’s, and unlike the first kiss, this one was passionate, not at first but gradually, gradually Becky kissed back.

While some on principles baptized
To strict party platform ties
Social clubs in drag disguise
Outsiders they can freely criticize
Tell nothing except who to idolize
And then say God bless him.

And when the kiss ended, Becky was nervous, ”I’ve never done anything like this before.”

Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony.

And Sam laughed “Obviously! Don’t worry, I’ll be with you all the way.” And with that, Sam climbed upon Becky and their love began to blossom.

While them that defend what they cannot see
With a killer's pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death's honesty
Won't fall upon them naturally
Life sometimes
Must get lonely.

As Sam and Becky broke free of themselves, the pipe connected to the running car’s exhaust, which was fed through the window, with the gaps stuffed with t-shirts, pumped toxic fumes into the car. It was filling up nicely. It didn’t stop the girls, it wasn’t supposed to, so they continued.

And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only.

The song ended but played again, and again, and again, the CD was on repeat, who knows how many times it played.

AUTHORS NOTE

This story was inspired by a scene in the final episode of The Sopranos, where i thought a young couple were about to commit suicide, but they didnt, i thought they should and it would make for an interesting story, i changed the couple to girls to make for the twist at the end. So if you think ive ripped this story off...i have, sortof.
