Adam slowly regained his consciousness in a dark, small room that was hardly lit. He looked around and noticed how there was no one there. He glanced at his wrists and realized he was bound, however. As he studied the thin rope which was wrapped around his wrist, he snapped it of with a quick jerk. Quickly, he sprang to his feet as if he was being watched.

In the dark room, he hardly was able to spot the door. After he did so, he groped about in search of the handle or knob. It didn't take him very long to find it. After he took hold of the handle, he reached for his knife with his other hand. The sheath was empty. Slowly and gently, he pulled the handle and looked out the small crack.

He looked outside of the door with caution. It was still night. He wasn't sure of how long he had been there; but he had an idea of how much time had passed since he first saw the figures by the position of the moon in the dark, cloud-filled sky. He found that he was in a small shack with planks of wood rotting off of it on all sides- it spanned roughly five feet in each direction.

Scattered about the shack that he was in were many other- but larger, however- shacks. These, though, were more to the like of houses. And passing to and fro, he could see more figures. They were alike to the others that he had seen- clad with robes and the same necklace. However, he could see how these figures were had lighter builds than the others. As he watched them, he noticed that they had no masks. He saw that they were all seemingly normal women- but cloaked and hooded.

Just moments afterwards, he heard a loud noise. Like some flute or wind-pipe. At that second, all the women went into a house. He examined the area quickly- it was mainly a level area with rough grass. It spanned out for some time until meeting the trees which encircled this small, apparent village. Several stumps were scattered about, mainly around the planked, flat-roofed houses. The moon was falling towards his left and it made shadows from the trees which shot out and stretched towards him like many arms.

It was now the time that he thought he could get out of this place. He tilted the door slightly more open, and it creaked on its rusty hinges. He brought the door to an open position just to where he could come out. He took one step out, and got ready to make a run for the tree-line. At that very time, the door of a building across from him opened. Then several other opened. Out of the doors came more figures; these ones were masked. He could tell that these were males now. All of them started moving in the same direction- towards his far left. But suddenly, one made a sharp jerk of his neck. He was now looking straight towards Adam.

Like a bullet, he snapped his body back into the room and brought the door to a close. He turned his back to the door, and a cold sweat came to his temple. He frenetically scrutinized the entire small room. But to no avail; it was all empty. He looked down at the boards under his feet. There were a few nails which stuck out several inches from the boards. He promptly bent over and pulled on three different nails. Only two came out, but he found no need to try for the third- he could now hear footsteps. Indeed, calmly paced, there were clear, soft footsteps that drew closer with each step. Adam pocketed the two nails.

The noises were deathly close, but then ceased, making it seem that the man stopped right outside the door. Adam's arm felt to be blazing with an intense heat as he now dreadfully stood against the wall to the left side of the door. The door squeaked open and slowly came in front of Adam's face. He heard two more footsteps and then they stopped again. Gradually, a dark red cloak came out from behind the open door. The man turned his masked face at Adam. He pushed the door slightly and walked towards Adam.
