Chapter 8 Tricks
He led us to a large freezer used for keeping certain medicine's fresh and chilled. "The monster's they don't come in here" the last word sounded like Heeeeere. He locked the door "they don't like the cold at all. One of the patients looked at the wall and saw blood splattered on that wall leaking and dripping down to the floor, he looked closer and saw a mutilated mostly human looking body, looked away then vomited. Paying no attention to the vomiting patient we went on with a discussion about who "they" were.
"The scientists are who "they" is doc" The stranger said. As he kept talking his speech became worse and worse something was up. He kept on talking anyways "They'll be after yer blood if ye haven't been transformed aleady; most people here are already done n or they're fihing the done in. The scientists from Wscnsin, ty're everywhere searching for peple lik you, clean people, and they don't need you alive. Trust me" he lifted his shirt revealing 4 bullet holes implanted in his chest. "I is just a more civilized version off them ya know" he looked at Herbert his eyes grew wide and he lunged for him when one of the patients punched him in the face, he fell to the floor, they pinned him down and put the gun in his mouth. Looks like we're going to have to be more careful about who we follow from now on.
I tried to get my mind around the fact that people looked up to me here, I am the unofficial leader here so I knelt down and asked the human/monster "what the hell do you think you're doing freak" the monster was not speaking anything close to English now, twitching, struggling and speaking gibberish which he was held down Herbert looked at his neck and saw there was Gary's blood on it and realized that's what set this monster off him off.
"They're like sharks Lionel," I said "blood makes them go crazy." Herbert looked at the monster on the ground and saw him transforming right before his eyes, his ears grew, his eyes became yellow and wide and his arms became bat like wings the patients couldn't hold him for much longer, so the first shot i have ever fired in my life had gone right through his head and the transformation stopped immediatly and a dead human lay ahead of me instead of a the giant bat thing he was transforming into. I rallied everyone together and said "From now on I am the leader here so do as I say and we will get out of this alive. There are things in this hospital that will defy anything we've learned about in our lives as you have seen a minute ago, we've been lucky the past 2 attacks as we have only lost one person which is a horrible loss when you think about it, it is someone's life but at least we're not all dead." I paused to see if anyone was listening, and to my surprise all of them were focused on what I was saying "We will get out of this we must watch each other's backs, find weapons and work together we will get out of this I promise you all"
The Patients, The Stranger and Jake who I hadn't seen in awhile were all cheering for me. I asked the crowd " If I am not a good enough leader someone will have to take my place and i choose Herbert to be my replacement. He has military experience at least. That is my decision and if we don't get out of this mess by the time tommorrow comes around then take it up with me." We are going to have to turn the vents on if we're going to get this fog stuff out of here. It seems that the monsters feed off of it and the dark.
