![]() He went to the park and sat on the bench there by the little pond and was feeding the geese. Zax was in love with going to the park because it made him feel free and careless. He could relax and just take it easy there on that park bench. The little pond was beautiful today, the suns reflection off the water and the cherry trees in the background would almost take your breath away. There was a cool breeze coming from the southeast and it was blowing against zax’s face. The people in the park were very friendly today, more than usual. Passing by zax they would wave and tell him to have a good day. The only problem with the beautiful day that zax was enjoying was that the geese were acting very strange, as if they were scared of him. This never happens at the park because the geese are always around people. But zax didn’t really care he wasn’t going to let a couple of weird geese ruin his day. As zax was lying there, he begin to doze off. He had had a long night that night mostly consisting of video games and television. When he got into a deep sleep on the park bench he started to go into a weird dream, one that his imagination had never been able to create before. Zax started spinning and seeing beautiful and radiant colors, some colors that he had never in his life seen before. The brightness of the colors almost blinded him. When he was spinning around in an almost hypnotizing circle he could start to hear the voices of people that he knew from a long time ago. Friends, family, he could even hear his old dogs barking. It felt like he was spinning in this circle for hours, might even have felt like days. He couldn’t believe how amazing this experience was and he wanted it to never end. The spinning and the colors finally stopped. A glowing opening appeared and through it he could see a walkway with roses, tulips, and daffodils. They had the every color you could think of and it was amazing. Zax got out of the spinning cirlce and headed towards the walk. Zax started down the walkway looking at the clear blue sky. He noticed something strange about walking, he could move his legs as normal but he couldn’t feel the tiny little flex of his muscles that people usually feel when walking. He couldn’t feel a single feeling that made him uneasy. He felt like he could walk the rest of his life. He felt like he could fight an endless boxing match. While he was walking he could smell the most beautiful smell. He couldn’t describe this smell because he had never smelled it before. The smell made him feel like he was in a trip or something, but he was not, it was just an amazing aroma. Down the walkway he went, just taking in the scenery until he came to a large, steel gate covered in roses and it looked a little old. It wasn’t a scary old it was more of an aged to beauty old. Zax sat there for a couple of seconds when he noticed a box on the side of the gate post. He went to the box and read what it said. On the top of the box it had small blue writing that said, “To open this gate and speak to the man that can set you free, please press blue button.” Zax pressed the button and the gate opened. Zax went in through the gate and inside was a large field surrounded by forests on each side. There was this sound of peace throughout the entire atmosphere of this weird place that his dream had taken him. So Zax starts to walk, again feeling nothing but peace, not a muscle moving, nothing. He walks though some very tall grass until hidden in the tall green grass is a door that leads to what he thought would be a basement. He opens the door and goes down the steps into a dark room. He’s not really scared, but he normally would be, he thinks that he no longer can have this feeling. As Zax is walking to the basement, he can here some peaceful singing. It sounded like his mother that he hadn’t seen in at least twenty years because she had died of cancer. He gets to the middle of this dark basement and the lights come on. There on the right side of this room that seems to have no end is a door. The door is a large old door, it looks as though it came from the 1st century. There’s a sign on the door that says “Zax, please open door and come in and go up the steps until you see a bright light, when you see this light just sit back and see what happens.” So Zax opens the door and begins up the steps. When he gets to the bright light he just sits back, he is not nervous because this dream is letting him have no bad feelings, and waits to enjoy whatever is about to happen to him. Whoosh! A big splash of something goes over his face, not getting him wet but really refreshed his soul. The ground begins to move like a rotating walkway and takes him through a picture show of all his memories, even the ones he didn’t remember. The ride eventually stops at yet another large ancient wooden door. There is another sign that reads “This is your last stop until your freedom, once you open this door you can not go back, but we promise this will be the best thing that you have ever known.” Zax opens the door and another bright light comes on. This time it’s not blinding though. There in the room was every person that he had ever met that died. There was his mother, as beautiful as ever. His father was there also, he looked very young and healthy. Every one was there and he was happy. His mother came up to him and said, “ welcome home son.” Zax was a little confused since this all felt so real so he asked his mom where he was. His mother said, “ son you are in heaven now, welcome home.” Zax could not believe this, he was just sitting on the park bench enjoying the day, he was not upset, because even if he was he couldn’t feel this feeling anyways. Zax says to his mother, “ how is this possible I was just in the park having a beautiful day, I Don’t remember dying.” His mother is laughing a joyful laugh and says to Zax, “ son, while you were sitting there in the park some enraged man with a gun came by a shot you in the head and you died instantly and that is why you did not feel yourself die.” Zax gets to live this dream that’s not really a dream for an eternity now. His life in heaven is the best thing that has ever happened to him. “Welcome home, my son, welcome home.” Copyright 2008 jeremy lahey |
