As Adam slashed at the personage, it turned to the side and the blade hardly caught the hem of its cloak. The figure tilted its head down— apparently to look at the ripped sleeve— and then continued to stare at Adam. Adam now made another stroke towards the figure; but his arm was stopped. The knife was slogged out of his hand. He felt a pain and glanced down at his arm that was clenched by a hand that was in a glove. He was thrown down to the ground close to the river by the dark figure that now stood towering over him. He quavered with fear as the tall, black personage moved towards him and grasped his shirt. As he was pulled from the ground, something stood out across the river that caught his eye. There was something over there that seemed out of place. When he was now hauled up, and clenched by the neck, he shot another glance across the river. To his amazement, there was another figure— just like the one that was pushing him along from behind, but cloaked in red. His mind began to spin now, he was curious as to what could be going on with these ominous beings. He turned his head around and now noticed the astonishing detail on the mask. It seemed to be carved with much precision; there were marks which came down from the top left of the mask. It seemed that there were many carved, flowing strands which went about wildly down to near the eye hole. He could only wonder if this marvelous carving was on the other’s mask or if it were but a different pattern. It was now not even five minutes before he came to another personage. It was cloaked in pure white and it came out from the trees. It came and stood along the path as he passed by, still fearing to move away from the hand that was grappled onto him. The figure’s mask was similar to the mask which was worn behind him, but it seemed strangely different. The pattern of the carvings was not closely the same— they were obviously hand made. He walked to the side of the being cloaked in white and the head was turned as he passed. He noticed that around the neck, the personage also bore a necklace with a flower upon it. Adam turned back his head yet again and now noticed that there were three beings behind him now— a white cloaked being, a black cloaked being, and, of course, his captor. All three of them bore the same necklace around their necks. He cowered as he questioned their purpose. And soon, he came forth with more words that slipped from his mouth with trepidation. “Who are you guys?” This time, his slow words were not returned with silence. No, instead, the silence was now replaced by a harsh hissing from the two figures that now followed closely behind. He immediately inferred that his inquiries— if those beings were even capable of understanding them— were not desired. He stared at them in wonder and wished those eerie hisses could leave his mind. They now came to a rightwards bend in the river, and the path also bent along with the river. The night was beginning to get colder. And the formidable appearance of these figures felt like it chilled the very marrow in his bones. On the path, past the long bend in it and the river, Adam could see yet another figure. This one was white and alone— it stood facing the way they would come. After several minutes had passed, they began to come closer to the figure on the path, now merely twenty feet away. Adam now realized the detail on this figures cloak— it was white with intricate trimming of red and black. The same necklace was worn, but there was a different mask that this one bore. It looked almost the same save at the top. It had many almost tentacle-like curves headed upwards, as if reaching up for something. As he came up to the figure with the others around him now, they bowed. He looked at them and soon realized that this was apparently a leader of some sort. As the one who had him held walked up to the leader, the other two quickly came on both sides of him. The leader seemed to be whispering something to the personage who now turned a masked face towards Adam. The black figure approached Adam and the two individuals who were beside him, then stood right in front of Adam. The figure raised the right hand and the black glove on it shone in the moonlight; then he walked away with the personage in white, red, and black. The other two figures grasped Adam by the shoulders and smothered him until he fell to the ground.
