“What do you think it’s like to be an adult?”

I look at him for a moment, study his face, then look back up at the sky. It was so blue. Spotted with giant fluffy clouds.  “I’m not sure…..why?”  He lets out a sigh.

“I’m turning eighteen and graduating soon…..I’m going to have to be an adult…”

“Grown-ups are just kids with more responsibilities.” I grin.

“I don’t wanna grow up…” he’s scared. I can hear it in his voice.

“every one has to grow up sometime.” I can tell this topic is depressing him so I change it. I point out a fat dinosaur in the sky and he laughs at the randomness.

But the laughter fades and the casket goes down. The tears are coming and I cant stop them. His words echos in my head.  What do you think its like to be an adult?  Well my friend…now you’ll never know.

You escaped it…and forced me into it.

I thought this was great. You can usually predict the outcome of such a short story, but not here. It was quite touching. Very relevant for the new "greatest generation" we're seeing today. Young people laying down their lives on foreign shores, at much to young of an age.

That was a nice surprising ending. I'm not one to usually say this but I thought it was touching. Good job!

That was a great transitional line with the casket falling.

I think that was the perfect length for a concise piece like this. I'm going to come back and see what else you have to offer after this.
