CHAPTER ONE

The Sickness

I am Dr. Lionel Kneeler; I am a doctor at a little clinic in Ohio. I have a family back home and my wife looks after our kids while I am working I love my job because of three reasons 1. The people who make my day great 2. Those great people who help me and 3. The great pay . I was at work doing the usual checkups, routines, etc when patients started flooding through the clinic like a school of fish. Thats when i knew i was going to have one of two days a busy or a bad one.

Through the crowds noisey combined chattering, one voice was heard clearly throughout the facility, "EVERYBODY CALM DOWN WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?" says Jake, the only male nurse in our facility. My apprentice it is his last year next year he gets his licenses and will become a doctor like me. Back into reality, almost in complete unison the crowd responds with a loud "HAZE" heard clearly through the halls. All of the doctors suddenly looked at me like I knew something about it "what are you all looking at me for?" I said.

I took one of the young men into the urgent care ward to check if he had inhaled any of this "haze" and possibly find out what it really was, if it was deadly and where it's coming from. As far as I could tell, nothing was really wrong with him, besides the swollen throat, which looked sort of, infected and puffy. I took a sample and it returned negative for anything out of the ordinary. Maybe just a throat infection I thought, but suddenly I heard a loud thump behind me it was the young man I brought in, he was dead. I decided to take more tests and maybe find a cure for this before the rest of the patients fell.

Everyone was different, but whether man, woman or child they all had the same infected throats. As soon as the last test was done on these patients the lights went out which was odd because it was a nice day out besides the light haze outside and our generators were just tested 2 days ago. I tried to call the maintenance workers we usually called, but the phone was dead....

To Be Continued.....

Oh this is nice. Creepy for sure. I like the location this takes place with the doctor and impatient patients. Haze? This is starting to sound like Steven King's "Fog." Hmm, I really enjoyed this one, and I hate to leave a series unattended, so we'll see how you wrote the story. On to the next.

Shit, I meant Steven King's "Mist." How could I mess up the title?
