The lead tip hangs off its wood mother,

bound together by a splinter,

an ambilical cord. The lifesaver

keeps the tip hanging.

Millions of potential words rely,

on this lead tip's survival. It won't

live past a minute without the

care and support of it's mother.

Slipping, the lead tip struggles to

keep on, the ambilical cord

becoming weaker and weaker

second after anxious second.

The tip falls to its death, denying

resuscitation to the ideas and words.

But alas! A new tip emerges, allowing

the stories and pictures to breathe air

for the first time.

I stick with a wooden #2 myself, but I think a 0.7mm is alright. Like how the pencil is referred to as the mother of the lead.

I sort of feel bad for pencils now...At least the computer age is coming in, eventually we won't have to worry about killing pencils anymore.

What an interesting topic to write a poem on. Very unique, but what about erasers?
