Loyola High School Names High Point Academy Student as2008 Reverend Charles R. Gagnan, S.J. Scholarship Awardee

14 - year old Conrad Ukropina, an eight grader at High Point Academy in Pasadena, is the 2008 recipient of the Reverend Charles R. Gagnan, S.J. Scholarship Award for Loyola High School. Conrad was the highest – ranking candidate from over 800 students considered for the $2,975 scholarship and one of two recipients selected for this prestigious scholarship award. The criteria used in selecting the awardees includes the students’ placement rank for the entrance exam, their Grade Point Average, and recommendations by their teachers, principal, and pastor.

Loyola High School Principal Reverend Charles J. Tilley, S.J. states in a letter to Conrad, “The Committee and I were personally impressed with your academic achievements and look forward to having you apply your tremendous leadership, academic and extracurricular skills [with us] at Loyola High School.”

Conrad Ukropina is an honor student and a Pasadena resident. He is Activities Commissioner for his school, plays soccer on the Silver Elite Barcelona Soccer Team and is a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts, going for his Eagle Scout badge this summer. He is also active in school holiday performances and participates in his church youth group.

His father, Bill Ukropina, notes, “We are very proud of his academic performance and his volunteer activities and know that he will do very well at Loyola.”
