It’s the beginning of the year 1976, and we are now in year 9. As in we I mean my twin brother and I. We would always get into trouble. Nothing would separate us; we are stuck together till the end. Being in year nine you are no longer targeted by bullies. Year seveners are the targets and they are not wise to the games played. My favorite is the two-cent bash. Speaking of the two-cent bash there comes a great memory.

Behind the classroom blocks there is a walkway that leads straight to the canteen. The year tens would place a two-cent coin right in the middle of the path. They would watch and wait for their victim. Who ever picked the coin up was bashed until they gave it back. My brother and I knew about the game and so we would always ignore the coin…until one day. Gerard picks up the two cents and runs off with it. The tenth graders chase after him eventually crash tackling him to the ground.

After five minutes of fighting with him they pry his hands open. They were empty. They check his pockets, they were empty as well. The let him go and start scanning the ground for the coin. I come to my brother’s side and look at him quizzically. I swear I saw him pick the coin up. He pokes his tongue out at me and long behold there’s the little bronze coin sitting on his tongue. I clap him on the back and give out a laugh. That day we ended up having a giant chock chip cookie each.

This is a true story that my father told me. Every night he would tell us a story and this one was my favorite. Him and his brother would always get into trouble. But then how can you not when you come from a family of 17 children.
