muttered words |

![]() My heart pounded rapidly. Blood and sweat dripped from my paled face. Even though the words didn’t come out clear you under stood every breath of it. My blood stained your clothes and dripped from your knuckles. “If you love me then why do you hit me?” I repeat under my breath, the words just a slur. My body grew weak as you continually punched me. I still kept repeating my phrase and you hated it. The words fed you anger like blood fed a beast. I can’t understand why you do this. You say that you love me, you can’t live without me but you beat me to a bloodied pulp. All I have to ask is did you ever hear my screams when you punched me? Did you ever see the fear in my eyes when you yelled at me? Did I only love you to see your hate? Did you ever read the letters of love I wrote you? No…I guess not. Tonight I will be free of your fury. Tonight I will be happy. I pulled the knife out from under the bed. You laugh at me as I hold it to your stomach. Mocking me as my hand shook. ‘You will never do it,’ you say ‘you need me.’ But I don’t need you. I run the blade through your soft flesh, blood trickling from the wound. Your body falls to the ground in shock. The only word you can mutter is ‘Why?’ Why? Because I don’t need you. Because I love you and I wanted to love you till the end. I never tell you that, I let you die in silence…how it’s been long. Now I’m free…free to make my own choices. Oh how I love you, freedom. Copyright 2008 rachael |
