I awoke
with a start, noticing I was shrouded in darkness. I couldn't remember
anything, or even if there was anything to remember at all. As I peered into the
darkness, a cold chill crept across my body, and I realized I was naked. Fear
quickly swept through me, especially the longer I looked out into the seemingly
infinite darkness, as it now seemed that I truly was surrounded by nothing. I
pulled my legs in closer as if to try and protect myself from an oncoming
attack, but nothing appeared, which made me feel even sicker inside, because
now I truly was alone. It felt as if hours had passed by, sitting here gently
rocking back and forth sobbing to myself in this prison. It now seemed as if an
impending doom lay straight ahead, as if the darkness was closing in, ready to
consume some hidden memory, and steal with it my very soul. Searching in this
darkness, I decided that I must do something, ANYTHING, before this void
consumed me.
With a
quick nod, I decided I had to move, and slowly started to raise to my feet.
Standing up, I nearly stumbled, because, as to my horror, it felt as if there
was nothing under my feet. Heightening my dread and fear, I took a hesitant
step in front of me, but the darkness now overwhelmed my mind and I broke down
screaming in fear and confusion, as the impenetrable loneliness of this place
broke down my barriers and invaded my mind. After resting on my knees trying to
gain control over myself, I slowly rose back up and wiped the tears out of my
eyes determined to find a way out of this hell.
As I
continued to wander around, I felt something drawing near, my hopes quickly
rising that I was saved. But all to quick I understood that whatever was coming
wasn't coming to save me, because of the murderous intent that was now
radiating from its ever nearer presence. Instinct took over and I began to run,
with the thought of survival the only thing on my mind now, so that I didn't
notice the icy wind that now tore at my bare skin, slicing through into the
soul that dwelt within. I finally felt like I had gained some distance on this
malevolent evil that followed me, but my thoughts were quickly banished when I
felt something grab a hold of me. At its touch my skin burned, and I felt
everything inside go from icy to an inferno, but instead of a warming embrace,
it burnt away at me from the inside out. I kicked and screamed trying to
escape, but the grip it had on me held me firmly in place, pulling me down into
the endless floor. Inhaling one last time as I prepared my final cry, a soft
shimmering light suddenly caught my eye, drawing me into it.
My mind
quickly forgot about the death that held me so close, as my eyes became
transfixed on the obscure light. It then began to streak throughout the
darkness, making a crackling sound that shook the very essence of my soul. With
the pounding noise ringing in my head, I noticed the streaking light quickly
becoming unbearable to look at, burning as bright as the sun itself. Every pore
in my skin began to tingle now, as if the light itself was sweeping into me,
and the pounding noise reverberated inside me until it seemed to become in sync
with the quickening pace of my heart, until I was completely overwhelmed,
dropping to my knees, wildy looking out at the spectacle trying to burn the
image into my memory as if in death this euphoria it created would carry me
from the darkness. Holding this final image in my mind my eyes drifted off and
I felt my body slump into the horrendous creature's grip, as I let go inside and I could only hope my soul
would escape this hell in death.
