Alien Presentation |

I sat through the entire presentation and was speechless. Looking about the room I found that I wasn't alone in dumbfounded amazement. Everyone, all the humans, just sat and stared at the screen, nobody moved. Mr. Edwards, and no, his name wasn't Mr. Edwards - that was the name he gave us, just sat on the other side of the room beaming. He appeared to be enjoying our reactions, insomuch as a human can read an alien face.
I was the first to compose myself and start the barrage of questions, "So, all the time we were strutting around in these blasted suits you could see us?"
"That is correct."
I was still wearing one of those idiotic suits, as was every human in the room. Ten years after the aliens appeared on Earth, a group of scientists determined that the aliens were totally dependent on infrared optics, and that the best way to study them and eventually destroy them, was to wear these wonder suits designed to remove our infrared signatures.
"That means that all of those times that you guys visited, and we were bustling about and sneaking about - you saw everything? You just stood and watched as our scientists stowed away and snuck around your ships analyzing your technology?"
"Yes, we saw everything. We thought that your suits had a most interesting property. Since you humans thought you were invisible to us, you displayed a tendency to act as though we were not there - thus rendering us invisible to study you."
"And our weapons?"
"Useless."
"But when we shot your people and your ships with them the target would immediately vaporize!"
"Humans would call it vaporization, we call it teleporting back to the ship."
"A trick?"
"I suppose a human would call it that."
"But why?"
"To put you at ease. Humans tend to have a need to feel that they are in control of their environment. Why else would you have met our first representative with weapons?"
"So why are we here, now, in this room? What happens next?"
"That is an interesting question; a question that we have debated many times over. If humans came to our planet, we wonder, what would become of us?"
"Why, nothing ill, I assure you. We would merely do our best to share our culture with yours, a mutual trade."
"We would love to believe that. Would you share your culture with us as your nations did with each other during your first Earth war? Or perhaps, share your culture with us as your nations shared their culture with each other during the second Earth war?"
"But we have learned from those mistakes."
"No, I, we don't believe that. We believe, judging by your reaction to our arrival, that humanity hasn't changed one iota since it's creation on this planet."
"So we have doomed ourselves?"
"There is no need to insult us sir, what do you think we are - human?"

Liked this: "'But when we shot your people and your ships with them the target would immediately vaporize!' 'Humans would call it vaporization, we call it teleporting back to the ship.'" One shouldn't assume so quickly, to feel good. Ah, and yes the part about "sharing our culture", eek, more like IMPOSING their culture. And the whole leverage bit, so true. Enjoyed this. » Reply to this comment... ![]() 04-20-2008 05:52, A slap in the face of humanity.
