In Wisconsin lived a little girl named Susan. She lived on a farm with her mother and father. Susan loved the farm and she thought it was the best. There was the most colorful sunset and the most gorgeous sky they ever saw.

Susan was never lonely. She spent a lot of time near the animals. Susan’s mother and father would listen to their daughter while she sat on her stool and read stories to the animals when they fell asleep. Susan would always have a smiling face.

One day, while Susan was busy with her book, her parents discussed how they would pay their bills. They had been working their heads off, yet, they only had half of the money they needed to pay their bills. If they did not have enough money to pay, they would be kicked out of their home!

“Should we tell Susan about this?” Her father asked.

“I think we should. She is old enough to understand, plus she is very responsible.” Susan’s mother said.

“Okay, we’ll tell her.” her father said softly.

Her mother and father went to her room. “Susan, we have to tell you something.” her mother said slowly.

“Sure! What the news?” Susan asked happily. What Susan was about to hear was going to change her life.

“Well, we must pay our bills. You know we have been trying our best to earn money but unfortunately, we do not have enough money to pay the bills. Therefore, we as a family will have to stick together, be strong, and move out of the barn to a different place. We have absolutely no choice.” explained mother and father. Susan had tears in her eyes but she kept them in.

When Susan’s mother and father had finished explaining everything and went to the other room, Susan thought “Absolutely not. I’m not going to let anyone take us out of the barn!” Susan was now very determined to save the day. She went out of her way to think of a plan. However, she couldn't think of one for several hours.

“Ah-ha!” Susan exclaimed. "I will write a letter that will make the person who was going to kick us out VERY sorry!" Susan was 15 years old and was the best writer in school. She actually had a smile on her face. She started on her letter of persuasion immediately. It was nine o’clock and Susan was concentrating so hard.

“Susan! Time for dinner!” her mother shouted.

“Okay!” she said happily. She had been typing the whole day! Her hands were tired and sore. She decided not to tell her parents about what she had done. She took a few seconds to print it out, and then she went for dinner.

The next day, she crept outside and posted her letter. “Hope this works.” Susan said. “Actually I KNOW it will work!” she whispered to herself.

She finally saw the mailman come to take the letter. “Yes!” Susan was not as worried as she was before.

Seven days later, Susan checked the mail and when she reached inside, she got a reply! Instead of secretly taking the letter in her room and reading it, she gave it to her parents! While they read it, Susan started to explain what she had done.

"So when I finished I-..."

SMACK!!! Susan’s parents smacked their mouths in shock. “LOOK AT THIS!” her father exclaimed. The last sentence said “I decided to leave you in peace.” The family gasped and Susan’s mother and father hugged and kissed her as if they had lost her.

They celebrated until dawn and lived happily ever after!

THE END.

Interesting as Wisconsin is hardly known for sun rises or sets. This odd reference in the opening caught my eye just fine. The ending, got it; but without having a sense of what she wrote, other than it was good, left the ending sort of predictable.

A very passive way to solve a problem.

Very good story.
