The Bus Crash

During an early afternoon in mid-August, he decided to pay a visit to his neighborhood friend, Mike C. On arriving at Mike C.’s house, he was invited to go on a chartered bus trip with Mike C. and three other people. The bus was already there, so he quickly joined in and boarded the bus, but as the bus pulled away from Mike C.’s driveway onto the busy street, a major incident occurred.

The bus had picked up some speed. All was going well until the driver lost control of the steering, and the bus smacked rear side into a telephone poll.  No one was hurt but this was not the end.

As everyone was leaving the bus to survey the damage, an oncoming white pickup truck failed to see the sight of the accident early enough and plowed into the mid side of the bus. This force was so dramatic that it caused the bus to roll upside down. Everyone in the bus was trapped, and the only way out was through the doors of the white pickup truck which had impregnated the inside aisle of the bus.

All were able to escape the bus, and all were able to escape personal injury except for Mike C.  He heard Mike C saying to his mother, “I broke my back.”

Later, at the hospital, he was talking to Mike C.’s parents. He said to them, “I’ve known Mike C. for a long time, and he always comes out of these things unscathed. He’s invincible.”

But the parents took no real notice of his words. They were very concerned about Mike C.'s prognosis. He was in critical condition. He may not survive.

He knew Mike C. would live. He did not have to wish or pray or will it to be. He placed no doubt in his mind regarding Mike C.'s recovery. It would be full. He entertained no questions, no other scenarios. He avoided the uncertainties that Mike C.'s parents and other friends had. The comment he made to Mike C.'s parents was the truth: There is something about certain people where they seem to have a kingship over their own life force. Mike C. had this thing time and again.

Mike C. and himself were the best of friends. They saw their friendship as eternal. They both knew there would be good and evil, yet they were committed to each other, and they always maintained the outlook that the good times outweighed the bad. In any ring of friendships, there is a constant subtle sense of ‘gaming’ by all involved to play out the theatrics of comedy and drama and horror and tragedy with one other. He was sure this would continue here.

He knew of people who had detached themselves from this world to alleviate the pain and suffering so common here. He also knew about the soul; that it goes on; that it heals; that it overcomes pain, injury, and even death, and it may be that in incidents such as this, an eternal process occurs that involves unionizing souls among souls.

But both Mike C. and himself were 'in' this world. They were enjoying this beautiful ride, this gift of life, and Mike C. did make a full recovery.

Similar thoughts, what was the the take away to this work? Read almost like a report; they did this, then that happened, etc... I think you have a draft here that needs a revision; start with what you want the reader to come away knowing.
