I have a picture of daddy
hanging on a wall
I think I was five then
I wasn't an artist at all
his head isn't right
his facial features too small
in the picture he's a tiny stick figure
when really he's over 6 feet tall
he has no ears
nor does he have a nose
just a smile
small eyes
and stick figure fingers and toes
but daddy doesn't care
he said so himself
he said my pictures are greater than any man-made form of wealth
I think that that's why
that picture of daddy on the wall
has other ‘for you daddy' pictures
none resembling him at all
I smile, now well into my teens
as I think of that fact
and what his loves means
I go to the basement
and find that certain wall
without any light I stare at the pictures
both big and small
now I'm putting up another picture
right with them all
finding some tape
I make sure it wont fall
the picture's of daddy and me, a star at my heart
your love is here, daddy
I whisper in the dark
