The young man entered the Kings home from the pouring rain on that cold December morning. As the doors slammed behind him he felt the outer world had shut down behind him. He felt himself entering another plane. He was here to see his King. He was frightened of the reaction he would get since he had been away for so long. There was no one there at the moment which was both disappointing and a comfort at the same time. He left the outer corridor, and walked through the main entrance. He was struck with awe at the familiar beauty of it all. He walked with long strides up the center Isle, his King in plain view but as always silent and waiting; yet always there for the young man. The only noise the young man could here was the echo of his boot heels as each one struck the floor, like the pendulum of an old grandfather clock. He had reached the throne at last! He genuflected, bowing his head in reverence, both hands on his left knee, his head down, hoping upon all hope he would be accepted by his King. As he knelt and awaited a response, he heard a voice from one of the outer chambers. It was that of his old friend, who invited his return to the kingdom. The words of “Welcome home” gave great comfort to him. He rose to his feet, took the seat next to his friend and after a long pause, replied while sobbing; “Bless me father for I have sinned.” Thomas Reynolds (c) Copyright 2008 Copyright 2008 Thomas Reynolds |
