Coma

With temperature rising
and three more seizures
behind,
the decision was made
to induce coma.

A blackout
would allow them
to drill a hole
in my skull
and release the pressure
on my battered brain.

Later, when conscious mind
returned,
I gagged
on the intubation tube
and felt the angry pain
in my badly bruised chest.

They said
I only lasted two hours
before my vitals crashed
and I was resuscitated.

For two lost hours
I wasn't aware
and didn't dream
at all.

I wonder where
my mind travels
when conscious is abandoned
and dreams are full of
haze?

More so,
I wonder which path,
this bewildering disease
will follow next?
