I wonder into the depths of insanity,

Attempting to retrieve the essence of eternal truth.

But light shines down upon me

And tempts me to rise.

I look up, and I am blinded.

But, I must continue,

That was the obligation I wished to fulfill.

I must dig down,

Deeper and deeper

Til I have found the core.

A bright hand grabs onto my shirt.

I rip it apart with my will.

Nothing shall stop me,

Nothing can now.

I think I can see the burning

Core of my essence

And it is slowly dying.

I place my lips onto it,

Oh how hot.

And I breathe my life into it,

The heat rises tremendously.

And I rise back up, my face burned off.

At least I'll live a day or two longer.

My feelings are safe

And I'm not dying anymore.

I shall do this once a week

To rejuvinate my soul,

So that I would not die again,

As I have before.

My head will be gone,

I'll slowly wear away,

But at least I'm still young inside.

And good luck to my last days.

....

The god of the dead. What an interesting poem. The last phrase caught me off-guard really, but I think it's neat how it was related to the Egyptian god Osiris. So it's almost like drinking from the fountain of youth. The poem was a good read.
