Purgatory By Andy Mannis
Finding an old crate to sit on, he calmly searched his trench coat for his cigarettes and his matches. Opening the box, only one match lay at the bottom. Being careful not to breathe, he lit his cigarette and took a few drags. "Funny," he thought to himself, "I always thought these things would be the death of me." Standing up and walking to one of the old boarded up windows, Jericho Alexander pried loose a few planks and cleared the dust from the window for a 3 story view point of the harbor and the city behind it. "It won't be long," he said aloud to himself. He knew soon he would have his chance to make a stand. Before turning around and returning to the old box crate he was sitting on, he placed his cigarette carefully on the ledge, making sure it would still burn while he was away. He pulled out the twins Francesca and Elizabeth and held them firmly in his hands. "It's now or never girls," Jericho whispered to them. He polished their silver using an old trench coat he kept in his left coat pocket. He then removed each of their clips, and inserted the .45 caliber rounds that he would soon use to defend himself. Putting the magazine back into each custom-made Desert Eagle, he was now ready to face his demons. As he saw the vehicles approaching quickly down the harbor road, he knew it was time. He picked his cigarette back up and took the few remaining drags. He savored the taste of the tobacco; the menthol flavoring refreshed his senses. Jericho dropped the cigarette on the grown and stepped on it, and turned to the stairs. He walked down the stairs to the first floor lobby in a trance, almost meditating, thinking about his strategy, and carefully planning each step of the way. When he got to the lobby, he had already drawn the twins from their holsters, safety off, ready to fire. He walked up to the old wooden double doors of the warehouse and peeked out the window at the hell that he would soon enter. With a deep breath and a sigh he turned away from the window and placed his back to the wall and closed his eyes, take one last deep breath, almost like the deep breath before a plunge. A size twelve boot was placed in the center of the old double doors by a powerful kick, and Jericho Alexander burst out of the warehouse, guns ablaze. Out stepped Daniel into the Lion's Den.
