Average was this man, this mere...human. Below the height of six feet, under the weight of two hundred pounds, and barely able to sufficiently lift, move, push, build, and destroy. This will not do. For it is within this day and age, within this new world, this grand scheme of all things, this Utopia, that we must bring about perfection. We will bring about natural selection once again, but this time, it will be us humans who decides who goes and who stays.
Mankind is so inefficient, so terribly retarded and inefficient. Wisdom is considered the greatest rarity, when it should become a goal for the entire species. Not only this, but Man's physical power, his manipulation of the environment with just his hands and feet is terribly sub-par. But today, today is the day that we create perfection. The day that Mankind is something more, something possibly evolutionary different. Maybe even, the successor to Homo Sapien Sapiens.
“Step forth, mien child.” the scientist said to his subject or victim. The platform was that appearing of glass over a blindingly white light without a source. Then the naked man was lifted into the air, his arms spread outward at the elbows, his palms open, the toes pointed to the ground out of his reach. At last, his head tilted back, the mouth locked shut, and the eyes closed calmly.
A deafening roar echoed in the small room like that of a jet engine in close proximity. There was a glow from the pillar of light that surrounded the being. And then a shockwave shook the area and it began.
The scream escaped from the man's chest in terror and possible pain. Muscle was toned, the mass bulked up slowly area by area. Biceps, triceps, quads, hamstrings. Bone grew stronger and heavier. Stroke volume was increased sufficiently. Neurons connected, senses grew sharp, blood flow increased to the eyes. Lung capacity was increased, tendons barely containing the new power. Ligaments strengthened to contain the pressures and strain. The skin was cleared of dead cells and thickened to defend from abuse and damage. But the most important improvements occurred last. A vast wealth of knowledge, of ideas, of philosophy, of the most complex unity with the universe, with a perfected understanding of all of existence. It all ended with all imperfections being removed from his genetic material. His scream subsided as the pleasure hit, shaking this new being to the core. And then it was silent and he fell on his knees and hands.
“My God!” “I cannot believe it!” “What have we done?” “I think we have done the impossible.” He heard all these things, yet no one spoke. The perfected man had developed telepathy. Goosebumps arose on the skin as he stood up, showing the organic battle tank that would be known as Homo Surperior. From this event those men knew one thing: they had done something that no man was ever supposed to do.
God looked down upon them, knowing that they have sealed their doom trying to replicate a power only he himself knew how to use responsibly.

Although sometimes I wonder exactly how responsibly God uses that power » Reply to this comment... ![]() 04-07-2008 14:03, nice one , i really enjoed that, its something i've sometimes pondered, now that natural selection no longer seems to apply what does the future hold in store for humans as race. Will man have to intervene to tidy up the gene pool? and if so what of the moral implications? » Reply to this comment... ![]() 04-11-2008 13:17, Great Intro. But after that it was a bit of a let down. You had me prepared for something utterly prodigious (!), but after reading the rest it just didn't live up the possibilities... No worries. You're a pretty good writer. You always have my attention. » Reply to this comment... ![]() 04-28-2008 11:38, I remember this one too..and it is still good. Funny enough I just read a book about genetics and what we as humans are doing to genes. So this falls along nicely with my frame of mind. Great Story Quintin.... » Reply to this comment... ![]() 04-28-2008 12:01, I know your looking to get others to comment,,,but just read it again...still find (homo superior) hilarious. ....even though I know its a true term,,,its still funny. Good story,,again. » Reply to this comment... ![]() 04-28-2008 15:12, Not bad but after the intro I was expecting something more towards the end. It left me hungry for more. Cool idea though, you should expand it some more! » Reply to this comment... ![]() 04-28-2008 22:14, hee hee This is a second read for me, I still enjoyed it, and see some sly commentary on the nature of great power and great responsibility. I wonder if God used his power responsibly to create us, then isnt he by proxy responsible for the events in this tale? eh » Reply to this comment... ![]() 05-02-2008 06:52, futeristic heh heh you should really make it longer. so many possibilities. still good though » Reply to this comment... » See all 1 replie(s) |
