There is a girl staring at me. She’s different from the rest of them. There is something not right about her eyes…like she knows too much of the things kids her age shouldn’t know. She’s so young. Maybe five or six and she’s just staring….like she wants to say something to me but it won’t come out of her mouth.  She looks alienated from the other kids.  She’s sitting at the same table, but it seems like the other kids don’t even notice her existence. I smile at her. She smiles back. But the smile is a sad one and it’s painful to see. I motion for her to come sit by me but she shakes her head no and points to the little boy next to her. I don’t understand so I just give another smile.  The smile I receive back from her is a happy one this time. “Hey!” someone yells behind me. I turn to look but it’s just some stupid punks fighting. The librarian is already hushing them. I turn back to look at the little girl, but she is gone. The other kids don’t notice.
