In the Darkness |

Me and my son landed on a strange dark land. From exhaustion my son and I would rest behind the large prickly pine trees for safety. There I sent my only son for supplies to build a fire while I would search for food and water. I found a waterfall and a small lake surrounded by small and large animals deep in the woods. Just like that I roped up a cattle and filled my container with fresh water. When I turned around I found Artomis sitting on the edge of the lake by the animals. ”Alex, take what you need, but I tell you the creatures on this land are not always forgiving.” “I am not afraid.” I left without another word still with the thought of Artomis’s words.
When I returned it was sunrise and I found Tony waiting patiently by a well built fire pit. I skinned the cattle and hung the beast over the fire and waited. By the time the meat was ready to eat the sun was beaming against our sweaty skin and leaving shadows of trees. I then noticed one of the trees shadows moved to another spot of the forest and Tony also noticed the strange movement. At first I thought I was seeing things from the heat, but then I realized the sun had moved, so that the shadow of the tree covered me and Tony from the sun. The creature left when the sun spotted it and it started to screech while heading into the darker woods. Remembering Artomis’s words I got up and tugged Tony to keep moving forward. Now fearing of the forest I walked beside my son along the white beach. Still the sun shined its hardest just to torcher me. Then I couldn’t believe my eyes I saw my true love, Penelope. She was dancing on the same beach giggling and waiting for my approach. I knew this moment was imminent. But deep down I was happy to see her all over again. I ran towards her followed by Tony, but she skipped away and giggled like she was perfunctory to me. I was shocked and lonely that she could play such a trick. Either way I was curious than ever before and chased after her. My heart was beating uncontrollably and I still never laggard. Penelope was slowing down then suddenly stopped underneath a dark tree and was just standing there with a bland look on her face. I couldn’t believe a few minutes ago she was giggling and skipping. I finally got my breath to say “Penelope my love, there’s, so much to ask and to tell. When did you get here on this land? Why have you come? Why did you skip away? Is something wrong?” “You ask these things like you know me!” From that point I felt like I’ve been washed away and forgotten. “Who are you?” Penelope standed at the exact spot while I got my anger out in words of confusion. When I was done she gave me a creepy and unpleasant smile and in a blink of an eye Penelope who I knew turned into a shadow with a pure white cloak. Before I knew it the creature grabbed me by my shirt and with the other hand started to scratch upon my flesh. It flung me every direction and when I had the chance I took a pointy and sharp stick from the ground and jabbed it in the cloak waiting for it to screech in pain. My response was a loud screech, but not in pain, but in anger. I then realized it had no body it just floated above the ground. It seemed like hours flew by and I was right the sun finally reached around the tree to spot the shadow creature. In fear the creature disappeared into the dark part of the forest. Relieved once again I headed back the way I came from. Tony was confused and worried about my wounds and I had no choice, but to tell him the truth. Night came upon us and I built a fire while Tony prepared the left over cattle meat for us to feast on. Tony and I both fell asleep with full stomachs and thoughtful dreams. Sunrise came and Tony and I were once again setting off on foot around the dangerous forest. Like other times the sun hitted directly at us. It was boiling hot and sweat was running down my cheeks. Every step closer it was like the temperature went up ten more than before. Aglow interrupted my thoughts and continued with new thoughts about the bright glow. A little closer and I found Apollo playing wonderful and gleeful music on a wooden flute. I patiently waited for him to return an answer from my curious look that was upon my face. He ended his song and spoke “You’ve come along ways, but with many questions still unknown to you. I do not betray you, I protect you. Still I can not be there when needed most, so I give you a special gift.” He then walked towards three jars in small and large length and picked one up to hand it to me. “The Amyth is feared to most, but not to you and to tame the shadow you must fear, Protect yourself, and present this. “Now he handed me yet another jar that was much smaller than the others. Without another word to spare he played his flute and once again I alone headed to the shadows of the forest waiting the Amyth. There I remembered where I last spotted the Amyth and was now in front of the same tree. I opened the first larger jar and appeared tasty salt. With no hesitation I automatically knew to pour the salt around myself. A few minutes passed and out came the Amyth with a nasty look on his face that gave me a chill down my spine. The Amyth came floating towards me at full speed and I couldn’t think fast enough to figure out what to do. It started to scratch and try to suck the soul out of me, but it was like the salt was a safety zone for me. Petrified of the attack it took me a long time remembering what I was suppose to do, but had no clue what that move was. Another few minutes flew by and it was like the Amyth had no idea what rest was, while I was in a quandary. All of a sudden these words were repeating inside my mind saying “fear, protect, and present.” I reviewed what I have accomplished and, so far I was petrified then was never wounded by the Amyth. Leaving me with present, but present what? A sudden chill filled the air and out of no where a massive gust of wind blew away the salt that once layed around me. Now I panicked and stressed. Then the Amyth strucked me with his claws and I dropped a forgotten jar that flew past the Amyth and out of reach. The Amyth was puzzled about my belonging and clawed me so hard I flew a few feet away. It picked up the jar and out dropped a piece of bread. The bread was sugar less and held no yeast in it, but the Amyth gave me one request out of his choosing: suck the soul out of any person of choice, leave him his family and friends alone, or do their every bidding. I had no human of choice to have revenge and had no chores to be done and by that I requested to leave me, my family, and friends alone. I returned once again to Tony and headed off into the distance by foot to our next destination. There waiting yet another adventure to be accomplished. Copyright 2008 Rochell |
