"Drago... Drago... DRAGO!" I hear voices screaming. "Come Drago, come back to our world where you belong!" The voices continued. All I see is darkness. I know I'm holding my hand in front of my face but I can't even see it. It's not fear that grips me, but anger. Anger because I can't see where the voices are coming from and anger that I can't move and attack whatever surrounds me because I feel a cold aurora surrounding me and it makes me feel threatened like a lion that is cornered only I'm more ferocious than a lion. "Drago... Drago... DRAGO! Come... come to where you belong!" The voices chant and then I wake up in my own bed with my body drenched in sweat and colder than ice. I breathe deeply and gather my wits together telling myself that it was only a dream. I look out my window and the sun's out. I shake my head and get up to put on my clothes. I put on my black silver-threaded silk button-up shirt and my black leather pants. I put on my combat boots and decide it's too hot for my jacket, now just to load up my gun. I always carry my two sawed-off double barrel shotguns (slugs only) around but carry my sword at night when demons are out and will attack you no matter how powerful your spirit energy is. My sword is a beauty. The blade is about six inches wide and is five and a half feet long, made of platinum, and the handle is one foot long with velvet and gold thread grip and gold handle guard. The handle guard is a gold sculpture of a demon's skull. Like I said, I only bring it with me at night not only because of the demons but also because there's hardly anyone out at night. I walk out the door of my one-room apartment and lock the door. I go to Harry's Tavern to get me some food with the money I earned the night before last collecting a bounty on a satanic priest. Which put up a good fight with his spells but I didn't even break a sweat over it and I don't consider that a good challenge. I walk into the Tavern getting greeted by Harry "Hey Luca. Your usual?" I nodded. I sat down and ten minutes later Harry slapped down a plate of a T-bone steak and scrambled eggs. "You alright? Your eyes are blood shot." Harry asked sitting down across from me. Harry was a big guy, had a beard that practically covered his whole face and was a very mischievous man. You can see that he always had something going on in his head. "Rough night." I said and started on my food. "There's another contract for tonight if you want it." Harry hinted. "I haven't even had my breakfast and you're already coming to me with work." I said irritably. "This one's big and you're the best I've got in this business and I don't think anyone else can handle this one except you." "What you got?" "There's this insane guy at the top of Devil's Mountain, supposed to be very good with a sword and very deadly with dark magic who claims he's the son of Satan himself. I know how you like to fight with the crazy ones so I'm giving this to you." "What's the pay?" "The guy who asked me, the priest at the cathedral at the bottom of the mountain just said the church will pay you dearly and will still be indebted to them and I told them I'd get my best man on it which is you so what do ya say huh?" "You know you're a real piece of work, you know that?" I finish my meal. "This could be the one Luca and you know it. That one that you said that was going to come and pay you enough to retire and live in a nice house away from civilization." "Alright I'll do it but if this isn't enough to make me do what I want then you're going to pay for it. Understand?" "Yeah, yeah, yeah." I leave the tavern and go to my house to get my sword to see if it needs to be fixed and cleaned. I wrap it up in my white bed sheet so that no one sees it and leave to take it to Amelia's Gun and Sword Shop. Amelia is an old, haggard woman who I'm sure has seen better days in her younger years. She's a real dry personality and very picky about whom she deals with. If you eyeball her stuff too many times, she'll pull an elephant gun on you and blow you away. I have seen it done before. I walk in the door and her bell rings and she immediately appeared from the back to the front of the store behind the counter, behind where she always kept the big gun. "Oh it's just you Luca. What do you want?" She snapped at me. "Needing to see if my sword needs repaired." I unwrapped the sword and put it across the front table. "Nah it looks fine to me." She turned her attention elsewhere. "What do you mean it looks fine you looked at it for five seconds." "Boy is you questioning my abilities in the profession I picked and excel at?" "No ma'am." "Good, cause if you were, I'd trim that nice, shiny, and jet-black hair and your head along with it!" "You got any new weapons for me not to buy?" "You know what, I'm glad you asked." She went in the back and came out with two abominations of pistols. These were like shotguns mixed with pistols. They were medium length, had a round gallant-gun styled clip with shotgun shells in them. "What the heck is that supposed to be?" I asked. "I have no idea what they're exactly called but they are awesome. They are like a pistol version of a shotgun." "Do what?" "They're freaking semi-automatic shotguns you idiot! See you fire once and the thing rotates to the next shell automatically and keeps doing it up to eight shots. It's like a revolver but with shotgun shells and you don't have a hammer you have to pull down each time to shoot." "Oh," I was interested, "How much?" "Five hundred bucks..." "Five hundred?" "...A piece." "You can't give me a two for one discount considering I'm your only customer?" "Shoot no." "They are kind of bulky." "You can handle them, they got less kick than those sawed-offs you got and they're the same weight too." "If they're the same weight than that means the metal's lighter and weaker then." "Ever heard of titanium you bum?" "Oh, okay, I'll take them. Five hundred a piece." I took out a thousand bucks and slapped it on the table. Amelia handed me the guns and she was right, they weighed the same as my sawed-offs except on those, the weight was evenly distributed, on these it's heavy right in front of the trigger where the clip is; a minor inconvenience that I'll get used to. I can't wait to use them tonight. I said to heck with wrapping my sword and just sheathed it. As I was walking out of the door Amelia said "What about my tip you punk?" "Oh, here's your tip, quit making empty threats." I said and dashed out of the door and made a sharp right because I knew what was coming and sure enough a loud gun shot that echoed throughout the whole city radiated and you could hear the door to Amelia's shop just blow to pieces. By this time it was afternoon so I figured I'd go back to Harry's Tavern and get a drink. So I walked the ten blocks to Harry's and on the way there, there was a guy following me. He was in a black trench coat, and wearing black gloves and boots. Robbers before have followed me but this guy had spirit energy about him, very faint, but he had it so I went down an alley that was dark though the sun was shining. "Drago, Drago." The guy said in a raspy voice. I stopped. This was one of the voices I heard in my dream. I wasn't going to waste any time so I immediately grabbed my new guns, swung around and fired three shots each at him but he was as fast as lightning and next thing I know he's right in front of my face. He had drool coming out of his mouth and sharp fangs for teeth with an all black face and when I say black I mean black. I wasn't surprised because I immediately head-but his nose and broke it. I holstered my guns and threw a right hook breaking his jaw but he retaliated with a kick into my knee but I went with the fall forward and tackled him to the ground and pounded on his face. "DRAGO, DRAGO, DRAGO!" He screeched until finally I grabbed one of my guns and blew his head off. "What the...?" I said to myself. I found a tooth necklace around the fiend's neck and it had a two-inch black tooth that was glowing as a charm. I took the charm and put it in my shirt pocket and walked off. "What happened to you? You look like you got in a fight with a sledge hammer and lost." Harry greeted me and instantly filled me up a mug of gin and handed it too me. I chugged the whole mug down at once and asked, "What do you mean?" "You got a nasty bruise on your forehead." Harry answered. "I got in a fight with some kind of demon that was fast enough to dodge my shot gun slugs. This bruise must be when I head-but him on the nose." I handed my mug to Harry for him to fill it up again. "Geez, you alright?" Harry handed me the mug and this time I sipped at it. "Yes Harry I can do your job you got for me tonight." I answered in an irritated voice. "That's not what I meant. I mean you look shook up. I mean I never seen you this pale." Harry said. "Oh it was this thing that the demon said." I told Harry about the dream and how the demon's voice was one of the voices I heard in the dream calling Drago. At the end of the explanation Harry had a shocked expression on his face. "Dang." Was all he said and he took the bottle of gin and took a big and long pull out of it. "Hey I was drinking from that Harry!" One of the customers said but Harry ignored him. "You need to find a new occupation lad," Harry said, "Or go to church, or even both." I just sat down and thought for a long time until it got dark and I left some cash at the counter and took off but Harry chased me down. "Here take this. It was my dad's pistol; it's a forty-four magnum and has upgrades up the wazoo. It's had a hair trigger installed, hammer cocks back easier, most accurate freaking gun around and has less recoil." Harry handed me the black, polished gun. "Thanks." I said and walked off towards the mountain. The closer I got to the mountain, the more powerful this demon's spirit energy signature became. I loaded my guns when I got half way up the mountain and sparred with my sword for a few seconds because I knew this was going to be a tough battle. I sheathed my sword and started back up the mountain. I got to the top and it was a flat, grassy plain and I could see the demon. He had a power that was comparable to mine which didn't scare me but excited me. "Welcome Drago." The demon spoke in six voices at once, the same voices from my dream. "Okay, you touched my dreams and all that but you got my name wrong. It's Luca and who might you be. Are you Damian, the son of Satan?" I laughed. "No that was just a thing I used to get you to come up here and commence battle with me. And your human name is Luca but the demon inside you that has laid dormant ever since you were in your mother's womb is named Drago, I just want to bring it out because no other being on this wretched planet has power comparable to mine." "I have no Demon in me." I said calmly and drew my sword. "Every human has a demon inside them, it's just that yours is special. Where do you think you get your spirit energy from?" This demon was starting to make me mad. "Don't know, don't care." And with that I immediately lunged at the dark thing and made an over-head strike at him but he moved fast and jumped off the ground and flew up in the sky. My strike clashed down on the ground making a sound like thunder and rumbled the mountain. That was something I have never done before. "You see! It's coming out, feel your anger Drago!" I sheathed my sword, grabbed my new shotguns and fired at the thing. The demon was real skinny, agile, and fast. It had wings like a bat's and had long, tooth-pick-thin arms. I couldn't tell because it was dark with no moon but it looked like it was a blood red color. Three shots hit the demon and the demon screeched and shot a blast of energy at me. I quickly did a back flip and dodged the blast, which left a good-sized crater in the ground. The demon came down at me like a meteor trying to smash me down with his foot but I did a summersault to the side and dodged. When the demon landed, a shockwave radiated outwards and sent me flying. Now I was getting angry. The demon then brought out a sword and spared no expense and flew up in the air to do a swan-dive-attack on me but I rolled over ten times, jumped up, drew my sword, and got into my stance. I charged at him and he charged at me and we clashed our swords together which made another shockwave radiate throughout the field, disintegrating the grass. We matched our sword attacks blow for blow, I swung from the right, and he'd swing from the right. We went on relentlessly at each other until my anger burned and the black tooth I picked up from the demon earlier glowed and exploded knocking me into the air and knocking the demon I was fighting to the ground and sliding him fifty feet across the dirt. I floated in the air and next thing I knew I was morphing in a painful process. All of my muscle got bulkier, my sword even got bigger, I grew horns out of my forehead, My clothes turned to black armor, my hair spiked up and got wild and long, a mask covered my face, I saw nothing but red and black, it felt like my eyes were burning flames, and I grew wings that were my body length. "YES, YES, YES! YOU HAVE RETURNED. YOU HAVE RETUURRNED!" The demon screeched. Everything felt right. I felt alive and awake; it was like I was born for a second time. This transformation felt great. I centered my attention on my opponent, my senses were heightened, my reflexes faster, and my strength multiplied ten times as well as my speed and cunning. I took my sword and swung and over-head-swing and a blast of energy came out like a freight train and ran the demon over. I didn't give the demon a chance. I dived after him, the demon tried to block my assault but his resistance was futile. In one second I let out a combo sword attack too fast for my foe to keep up with and each time I landed a blow on him an explosion happened. The demon tried to recover himself but I mercilessly let out an energy blast out of my left hand that should have obliterated him but didn't, instead a battered human lied on the ground taking short wisps of breath. Shortly after, I transformed back into a human and knelt down breathing deeply. I gathered my wits and walked to the human and was stunned to see that it was my long lost friend, Vincent. "It was an honor to be killed by you Drago." He said in between breaths. "Come on man, we got to get you to a doctor now." I said trying to lift him but I was too weak after that short burst of energy. "No, leave me, I can die in peace now. You are stronger than me you know, you always have been. I let my demon take over me, but you took over your demon." Vincent said. "I'm getting you out of here." I tried to pick him up again but fell immediately. "It was good seeing you again man." With that Vincent died. I fell into a deep sleep and woke up the next morning to see Harry sitting at a campfire with a shovel stuck in the ground and a hole dug. "What are you doing here man." I slowly got up. "An hour after the light show ended, I came up here and figured you were dead. I can't believe that it was Vinny that was causing the trouble. What happened?" "It'll take too long to explain but lets get Vincent in the hole and say a few words for him. We held a little mini funeral for Vincent, just Harry and I, it was only right considering Harry and I were the only ones who really knew Vincent. After the funeral I went to the Tavern with Harry and explained everything that happened in detail to Harry, who crashed to the floor unconscious. I finished my drink and passed out right there on the table. Copyright 2008 Shawn Dally |
