Life in New Zealand was treating Simi extremely well and why wouldn’t it. Ajav was full of goodness, love and foolishness. He was just perfect in all ways. He never gave Simi a chance to complain. When they arrived from Fiji he spent two weeks with her making sure that she felt secure at their place before he started work. And as promised they had a perfect honeymoon. Simi was scared but Ajav talked her out of it. In these two weeks Simi updated the house the way she wanted. The house was always up to date and perfect in every angle. Ajav called Simi a clean freak and teased her that if the health department came to know about her they would steal her away.

The house was just prefect but Ajav asked Simi not to clean up the garden shed as he had lots of junks there and he would like to sort them himself. Whenever Simi reminded him of the garden shed he kept delaying. Simi called him lazy and unorganised and Ajav loved when she was angry with him. He would chase her around the house and once he had caught her he would take her to the bedroom throw her in the bed and sit on her. He would hold her hands firmly to the bed and would lick her face. This really annoyed Simi and she sometime burst into tears. But in the end they would end up making love to each other and Ajav enjoyed that so much. 

When Ajav started work Simi felt lonely. She missed him so much. Ajav used to keep her on her toes and him not being around was so boring for her. She watched all movies he had in store and she went around to the shopping malls and she would stay there for hours. Ajav didn’t want her to start work yet as he wanted her to relax and enjoy married life. All I want from you Ajav would tell her to be ready for him when he comes home from work. Ajav was crazy about her and he told her that his life was complete and all he wanted now was a baby. Simi was not very pleased with it. She was only 22 and she wanted to enjoy life.

Six months had passed away and Simi was more comfortable staying home alone. Weekends were good, as Ajav never left her side. He took her sight seeing, restaurants and hotels. His cousins too joined them and they all used to have such great weekend together. Nearly into the seventh month of their wedding their honeymoon was still not over. One day while Simi was preparing lunch as Ajav’s cousin sister, Kav, had popped in for lunch she lost conscious and feel on to the floor. Kav rushed Simi to the doctors and they discovered she was pregnant. Simi asked Kav not to tell Ajav till his birthday, which were only few days away.  Kav promised and they happily returned home.

After lunch Simi asked Kav to help her clean the shed as Ajav still had not cleaned them. Kav told Simi that she should be resting but Simi was not prepared to listen. She went out with the key, which she managed to locate in Ajav’s study room, and opened the door. By the site of the shed Simi wanted to run away but she thought she would better start cleaning as it was not very long before Ajav would be home and he could also join in. Simi pulled up heaps of boxes and after seeing what it had she sorted the good ones and disposed off the junks he had kept for ages. A particular box, which seemed very new, caught her attention and she sat on the ground to go through it. Kav do you know Uma she asked. Kav was left stunned with her question. It took her while to answer and she finally said is everything ok Simi, she said why she was asking about Uma. When Simi looked up to see Kav’s face she knew something was wrong and that she was hiding something her. She took the box and went to her room. She read through each and every letter and tears ran down her eyes non-stop.

Uma was Ajav’s girlfriend and Ajav and his family had lied to Simi that she left him for another man. It was Ajav who had dumped her when he found out that she was pregnant. The letter said all and Simi was crying uncontrollably. Kav walked into the room and tried to talk Simi out of it but she was not prepared to listen. Just than Ajav walked into the house. He knew about Simi collapsing and he rushed into the room to see how she was doing. As he walked in he saw the box and the letters lying on the floor and he stopped and was left stunned. I can explain he said but Simi walked out of the room went to the spare room and closed the door. She cried all afternoon. Kav knocked on the door and told her that she was leaving. Simi still didn’t open the door. Once she had left Ajav came to door and begged her to open the door and to listen to him for once. Simi was too stubborn and didn’t let him in and she feel asleep crying.

There were so many things going in her head. She trusted Ajav and his family so much and they all betrayed her. She loved Ajav and wanted to talk to him but she didn’t know whether to trust him further or no. She opened the door around mid night to shower and change and she found Ajav sitting at the door. As she opened the door she woke him up and Ajav got up half asleep and grabbed her tightly. Please don’t do this he said, lets talk about it, I can explain and so can my family he continued. Simi started to walked off while Ajav was still holding her hands and she asked him to leave her hands but he kept holding onto it and Simi in haste turned and slapped him hard.

Ajav was devastated. He never thought things would ever come to this stage. If only he had listened to everyone and cleaned the garden shed before Simi moved in. Simi had her shower and went off to sleep. She cried whole night in one room while Ajav was left alone shocked in another. How could his family do this, Simi thought whole night? They had known the family for ages and they all betrayed her. In the morning Ajav tried his best to get her open the door and talk to him before he left for work but Simi was stubborn as anything.

 As he left for work she called Kav and asked her over. Kav arrived very late in the afternoon and as Simi opened the door Ajav walked in with her. When she saw him with Kav, she turned around to go but he stopped her and told her that she had left him with no option and that’s the only way he could explain himself. Kav and Ajav tired very hard to explain that the letters were all not true. Ajav did give Uma a chance to marry him when she advised that she was pregnant with his child but she decided that she was not ready and got rid of the baby. And after few months she left him for another man. Soon her in laws called and they all backed up Ajav’s story.  Simi was left with no option and she had to trust them all but deep down she felt something was wrong.

Ajav finally cleaned the garage and threw all mails and junks away. He was back to normal in no time but things kept haunting Simi and she was getting easily distracted and she pointed out small things out to Ajav and ended up creating huge issues about them. Ajav, as advised by everyone, kept very low profile and did whatever Simi asked whether he liked them or not. Three days after finding out about Ajav no matter how hard Simi tried she kept hurting him. She had still not told Ajav about the pregnancy and she was planning to terminate it.

On his birthday Kav came to help her prepare dinner as it was Friday and they were expecting few people over. Kav supported her and kept telling her that Ajav loved her a lot and he would never do anything to hurt anyone and she begged Simi to tell him about the pregnancy but Simi was addiment not to and when she told Kav that she didn’t want to continue with the pregnancy it shattered her. Kav gave her hell and walked out. Simi felt worse when she left. She thought about what everyone had said and she realised that she was just being too unrealistic. After heaps of calls and persuasion Kav came back and they finished up the party preparations. 

Simi had not even wished Ajav happy birthday and she now started feeling guilty. She went to phone to call him but as she did there was a knock on the door and she placed the phone down and went to open the door. She saw Ajav at the door and she burst into tears and hugged and kissed him and wished him happy birthday. Ajav was overjoyed that Simi had finally come to her senses and that she had realised that whatever she was doing was harming them both and their relationship. Kav also started crying and hugged them both and pinched Simi to tell him about the pregnancy but she ignored her. Though Simi was doing all that she was just pleasing everyone except herself and she had not yet decided whether she wanted to continue with the pregnancy or no. 

The party went fine and Simi had few drinks. Kav tried to stop her but she ignored. After everyone had left Simi began to clean the house. She worked till early hours while Ajav slept. When he had called her to bed she told him she was on her way but since he was bit drunk and tired after all the partying he didn’t realise that she wasn’t in the bed. Ajav woke up when he heard the vacuum go on and he looked at the time. It was 4 in the morning. He jumped out and went to talk to her. He was very upset that she had cleaned the house alone and didn’t wake him once. He took the vacuum and told her to sleep and that he would do it in the morning. But Simi wanted the house cleaned before she went to bed so Ajav told her to shower and get into bed and he would finish up the cleaning and join her soon.

After her shower Simi went to bed and Ajav walked in the room. He was very disturbed and couldn’t take Simi’s foolishness lightly. He asked as why she had spent all night cleaning when he could have helped him the next day. She didn’t respond to him and she turned around and told him that she wanted to sleep. Ajav got wild and shook her up to talk to him. Simi being very stubborn ignored him again and told him she wanted to sleep. This made Ajav really angry and he pulled her straight on the bed and sat on her hips so that she could look at him and talk and not run away or face the other side. What the hell you think you are doing yelled Simi you cant sit on me I may loose the ……… and she stopped. Ajav was shocked loose what he yelled back. Why can’t you just talk to me openly? I know I made a mistake in past but that does not mean that we have to talk about it everyday and fight about it he continued.

Simi started to cry and Ajav felt sorry for her and tried to cool her down. Once she had cooled a little she finally said I am pregnant but I just can’t trust you and I don’t know what to do with the baby, she said sobbing. I want to terminate my pregnancy. Ajav felt as if he had just been pushed of a cliff. He was shocked with her absurd behaviour and without thinking he slapped her hard on her face. That baby is mine and you are not doing anything to it do you hear that he shouted. And if you think you cannot trust me you can leave me as soon as you give birth. He burst into tears picked up his pants and his car keys and left the room while Simi sat on the bed and cried. 

Ajav didn’t get back home and neither did he call her. Simi slept through the day, as she was tired after all the cleaning and didn’t call him either. Around mid day she got up had her shower and went to get something to eat. As she heated the food she became noxious and began vomiting. She didn’t know what to do so she called Kav. Kav was all fired up. She spoke very rudely and told her that Ajav came to their house after the huge argument and he had lost his head completely. I thought you had more brains than that, she continued and when I saw you two yesterday I thought things were patched up for good. But I didn’t know that you would stoop so low and even talk about terminating the baby Simi began crying and didn’t know what to do or what to say.

She put the phone down and went back to bed. She was getting weak, as she had been missing her meals and her head spined non-stop. She didn’t tell Kav anything about her deteriorating health. She ate little but threw up more. By late afternoon she had dehydrated and could not even take a single step. Her stubbornness was unremarkable and she didn’t want to call Ajav or any of his family. She could have called her sister over but what would she tell her as why Ajav was not home and the main cause of all this. She didn’t any of her family to know and make things worse for them.

When Simi finally knew that she needed to go to the doctor or else she might even loose the baby and get situation worse between them she called Ajav. As soon as Ajav heard her voice he knew something was wrong and rushed home. He found her in bed barely moving. He called up an ambulance and took her to the hospital. He knew she had done something to the baby and had all sorts of things building up in his head. I would never forgive her he thought and she has go back to his parents and for them to decide as what to do with her and Ajav just had enough of her. His thoughts were interrupted by when the doctor came out to advise that the baby was fine and she had only dehydrated and since she had not eaten well in her condition and that she was on drips.

Ajav hurried into the room where Simi seemed to look satisfied. She managed to smile at him and said sorry. Ajav shushed her and kept kissing her holding her hands with non-stop tears rolling down his eyes. The doctors kept Simi at the hospital over night and by Sunday afternoon they were back home. Everyone was shocked and happy at the sometime to know that Simi was expecting and that she ended up at the hospital because she never took proper care. At home Ajav was busy as a bee. He was keeping eye on Simi and answered calls and attended to people who came to see Simi.

Finally around mid night when everyone had gone he went to bed. Simi felt sorry for him and when he got in the bed she gave a huge cuddle and whispered I love you. Ajav was overjoyed and he held onto her tightly. I love you he said and please don’t you ever get angry with me again. I am not perfect but I am trying my best he said. He laid on his back and as usual Simi slept peacefully on his chest that night. He got up next morning and called his office and advised about the situation and took a week leave. Simi was so pleased when he went to tell her. He lay next to her in the bed and asked can I touch your tummy. I need to feel the baby jump. Simi laughed and told him that it will be a while that he would feel the movement. Ajav kissed her tummy and started to introduce himself to it.  Another 7 months to go, Simi said to him before you can hold him. Ajav said but I want to hold her and both laughed and went back to sleep.

They got up around midday to eat. Simi seemed satisfied that Ajav was at home as she could barely move her hands. The injections and drips had swollen her hands. As they were eating they got a call from Ajav’s mum. She was coming to visit them and she would look after Simi for next few months so that her pregnancy was normal. They were both so pleased to hear that she was coming. They had not been back to see their parents after the wedding and since Ajav’s mum was now coming down everything sounded well. 

By Wednesday Simi was feeling better so she joined Ajav to go down to the airport to pick up his mum. It was such a pleasure for them seeing her. She held Simi and cried for a while. She was so happy that she soon would be a grand mother. She kissed and hugged Simi so many times and forgot all about Ajav till he told her that he too was there and because of him she will be a granny and it was not just Simi who made her that happy. They all laughed and went back home. At home she was very strict with them both. She told Simi to stay in bed and she did most of the work around the house. Ajav felt uncomfortable as whenever he hugged Simi he was reminded to be gentle. 

The following week Ajav went to work and Simi was in the shower. As she walked out she thought of calling her mum and she picked up the phone but Ajav’s mum was talking to someone. As Simi was putting the phone she heard a name, Uma. She didn’t put the phone down but instead she started to listen to their conversation. His mum was talking to Kav and they were discussing about how Simi found out Uma. Simi heard how pleased Ajav’s mum was that Simi didn’t believe the letters but trusted Ajav instead.  

That night Simi didn’t sleep well. She kept thinking about the conversation that took place and she knew that something fishy was going on. She didn’t talk to Ajav, his mum or Kav about it and kept things to herself. She was supposed to go for her first check up and get a pregnancy folder ready. Ajav took her to the doctors he said his friends had recommended him. This doctor is very qualified he told Simi so you don’t have to worry about anything. From check ups till delivery she will look after you he kept assuring Simi as she seemed down and lost for the past few days and Ajav thought it was all due to pregnancy.

As they walked to the doctor, she was pleased to see Ajav. They spoke like friends and Simi was surprised as Ajav earlier told her that one of his friend’s had recommended that doctor. She didn’t say anything but after normal check up and after seeing the first images of the baby they went home. Simi cried when she saw the baby. She cried her way back to home. She was angry and upset on herself for bringing a life into the world when she herself was not sure what tomorrow had for her.

Seeing Simi lost Ajav prepared to take her out for the weekend. He arranged for Kav to take his mum to her place and did all arrangements just to surprise her. When he told her about the trip she was not excited about it at all. She kept saying that it looked bad leaving his mum with Kav and kept making excuses. But Ajav needed more than that to have his plan cancelled. He kept reminding her not to pack too many clothes, as they will be in bed most of the time. Simi just hated the idea but she didn’t bring that on her face. The hotel was 3 hours from their place so they left Friday night. Simi slept most of the time and she hardly spoke to Ajav. Ajav noticed that she had changed a lot since his mum had come but he didn’t want to upset her so he kept quite.

He stopped few times to give Simi break and checked if she was ok. Simi loved him so much but deep down she was loosing all faith in him. She felt bad that Ajav was doing so much for her and she was not appreciating it. After more than 2 hours of drive Simi held onto Ajav’s hand. Ajav pulled over and kissed her. I love he said and I had been waiting for this for such along time. It seems that you are forgetting to love me and do things what pleases me he said. Simi burst into tears and told him that too many things were going in her head. He hugged and kissed him passionately like old times. Ajav was so pleased and was satisfied that the trip was getting, as he wanted.

Once in the hotel they ordered room service, as it was freezing cold outside. Simi had her shower, ate and slipped in the bed next to Ajav. She took the TV remote control from his hands and threw it. I thought we here to be with each other she said and not to watch TV. To this Ajav jumped and pushed her down on the bed and got over her avoiding not to sit on her tummy as usual.

Ajav loved each moment of it and was so glad that he took Simi out for the weekend. After a romantic weekend they went back home. Monday the usual things started Ajav went back to work and since his mum was still at Kav’s, Simi felt lonely. She was just sitting and watching the rain outside when she saw the postman dropping mail in their letterbox. She rushed outside to get them before they could get wet. Once back inside the house Simi hurriedly opened a mail that was for her with no return address.

She went through the letter silently with tears rolling down her face. The letter was from Uma and she had enclosed some letters from Ajav and photo of their son Ajay. Simi had enough and she could not hold herself any longer. She cried out loudly to get rid of all the pain and sorrow she had inside her. She finally managed to cool down and she called her sister who came to her see at once as she knew that Simi was really upset about something. Simi gave her all the letter and photos and explained her as why she was upset and how she ended up in the hospital. Her sister helped her pack up her bags and they left copies of the letters and photos for Ajav. Simi turned to lock the doors behind her and she burst into tears. I am closing a chapter of my life in this house, she said to her sister, and I never want to reopen them.

There went the vows of their wedding and the unconditional love they had for each other. The person whom she trusted more than anyone in the entire world betrayed Simi. Not only by him she was betrayed by his family and it will take her ages to recover.
