She awoke in a sweat. It was dark outside and the streets were empty. She hate waking up when it was dark, almost as much as when he left without saying goodbye.

Madeline fell asleep around 2 p.m out of spite . Her and Phillip had been arguing, so she decided to do what she always did. She hopped into bed, pulled the covers over her head , and drifted away from the world and its troubles. It was now 2 a.m. and madeline was just beggining to make sense of the day she slept away.

Madeline thought about the fight and the feeling she got waking up in a dark empty house. She called phillip to apologize for the stupid argument they had, and left her sentiments on his machine. Feeling alone, she sparked her joint, turned on the oldies station, and studied the still city for some kind of life.

By the next afternoon her fight with Phillip was forgotten, and she waited for his call. To pass the time Madeline got dressed to pick  up some lunch and grass. She called her dealer to confirm thier meeting but for the first time in three years he didn't answer. Not bothering to leave a message she headed to the cafe across the street.

When she arrived she did not receive the usual chat from the hostess or hello from the kitchen. Infact she didnt recognize a single employee, or the restaurant for that matter. Despite her concerns she ate her lunch in silence.

She left the cafe and hailed a cab downtown to her dealers house. When she arrived at his gate she recieved no invitation in. She buzzed the intercom"Joey, are you home?". No reply. "Joey, its Madeline, I told you I'd be here today" she started. A strange voice interupted "I'm not Joey and I do not know a Madeline young lady" the voice continued. Confused Madeline got back in the cab and proceeded home.

She arrived around five, and walked to Phillips to make ammends. When she got there she was startled by the new building in place of the one from her memory ,and the lack of Phillips name on the buzz panel.

Beggining to panic she immediately decided to go home, and to sleep. Upon arriving she climbed into bed ,pulled the covers over her head, and drifted away from the world and its troubles.

She awoke in a sweat. It was dark outside and the streets were empty, but this time Phillip was by her side, and she soon realized he never left.
