I wrote this back in early 2007, but thought it was too short to be good.

 

Mitchell set his digital camera on his relatives gathered around the fireplace. They all smiled at him, and the tripod was completely stable. He put the flash on, and got the remote cable ready. It seemed that they smiled a little wider, and their teeth were just that much shinier. “CHEESE!” they said in unison. He pushed the shutter button.

 BAM

 He landed on his feet, in an iron oxide covered area, the sky very dark red and brown, and it was dim. A slow but loud wind reached his ears. Rocks stood scrambled about the area. He was on the Red Planet. Mitchell opened his eyes. The same group of people was still smiling at him. As his relatives left the room, he looked down at the image display. There appeared an image of a red landscape…
