(A commentary on writer's block)

You won't be needing these,

he said as he took the words from my brain.

As he poured them into a jar,

I could see the nouns and verbs,

the adjectives and all jumbled together

like penny candy.

I reached for them as he sat them high

on a shelf, just out of my short reach.

Give me back my words,

I cried, weeping copiusly.

How can I be me without them?

He just laughed and walked away.

I sat on the floor and stared up

at the jar with my words inside.

Just make new ones, a soft voice inside

whispered.

So I grabbed a pen,

a sheet of paper, and made new words

that are me, and only me.

and I was happy again.

Good poem, Sharon; I can relate to poem. I had writer's block for 5 years once from 1987-1991. Enjoyed this poem.
