He never owned a dirtbike because the plain truth said that he couldn't afford it. I mean, you could afford anything if you cut enough expenses, you know? But I guess it just wasn't high enough up on his lists of things to do. Let's put it this way: if a few grand in a duffle bag dropped into his lap, he would have bought a bike on the spot. 'Till then, he just bummed mine, but I didn't ride that often anyways and I constantly owed him favors so it worked itself out. This time I let him borrow it, a foothold gave out and he crashed pretty badly, breaking his left arm, nose and getting a concussion. And now, I was getting sued for it.
A lawyer, his lawyer, called me and asked questions about the bike. After that, he told me the "notice of suit", and from then on, we've been battling. I'm losing. I knew it, but my representation wouldn't tell me.
I tried to talk about the crash with him, but he wouldn't talk to me about the incident without the presence of his lawyer. The guy was a real bloodhound and I never knew it.
So that's why I'm sitting here, I said, up at 30,000 feet and one ocean later.
The lady with the fat face looked interested, and not the least bit skeptical. "That really happened?" she said.
Explains me sitting on this plane, I said, without any carry-on luggage or friends or family. Doesn't it?
"Yeah," she said, "I guess. It's just not something you hear everyday, someone actually leaving the scene of the crime." It looked and sounded like something was caught in her throat. After all, she was sitting next to a criminal, she thought.
"So," reserved, she said, "Where are you going? What's next?"
I cleared my throat. "I'm not sure yet." And I wasn't. It was a long flight and I could figure that out later. But I figured I'd have a bit of a vacation, and when it was time to come back on a double-digit hour, overnight flight, I could come up with another story to tell a curious co-passenger lucky enough to sit next to a good self-entertainer.

,,,

Good story, but It left me a bit confused is all. In one line you wrote "explains me sitting on this plane" but im not sure it does. Is he traveling to get away from the law suit or to spend the money he would have had to give the bloodhound from losing the lawsuit.

....

what's the point in telling?

i'd just like to know if you enjoyed the ride, not where you arrived.

Hmm, it is a bit confusing, and it does leave that good question at the end, if it was real or fake? I like these kinds of stories where you sort of have to figure it out yourself. It was a very good read...I think it was fake.
