                                                Chancellor’s First Draw

The dun horse’s mane glistened in the wind as I rode hard and fast into the small town of Torris. I could already see fresh sign of cattle and I could smell the scent of civilization back in my nostrils. Fresh apple pie, whisky, and of course at Torris, livestock.

I soon saw the outline of the town in my distance when three riders approached me. The middle horse was a rough looking sorrel and the owner wasn’t much better. I noticed all men wore six guns. The leather holsters where worn, and the gun metal tarnished. I also felt that all to familair feeling in my stomach, the nervous/ scared felling you get when you are put in a life death situation.

“Excuse me son but this town has an entry fee of a hundred dollars.” The middle man demanded.

“Sir with all due respect, I don’t need to pay no fee to enter a town I live in.” I said. I lied but this man didn’t know that. My gun wasn’t showing and I could see it in this mans eye that he had plans on plugging me quick.

“ I guess you can go……….. to meet your maker.” He said and he drew for his Colt as I drew for mine. I drew quick and shot him and his partner to the left. The gun kicked hard on my hand, but the smooth handle made it easy to manuver. The third was apparently a coward and ran fast. The other accomplish was dead, but the leader was still alive, barely.

“ Can I have the honor in knowing my killer’s name?” he asked

“ The name's Chancellor Riggin and I am not a killer by anymeans.” I said and walked away. As I mounted my trusty dun the man yelled at me.

“ Chancellor Riggin I may not be smart, but my friend is dead and when I die due to your gun, I believe you will be labeled as a killer.”

I ignored him. Those words hurt, but in a world where the law was named Colt, you had to kill to survive. Putting this out of my mind, I rode on into town.

The sun suddenly shined bright and I kicked my dun on up. He also felt good and took off at a dead run. The rumbling off his hoofs under me vibrated my whole body. His breathing was loud and he neighed almost every seven steps. It was a most beautiful day and we both enjoyed it.

As we arrived to town, I was greeted by many saloon girls who I turned down immediately. I walked into the saloon and asked for a few shots. Almost 30 seconds later a angry voice said, “ Chancellor Riggin, you killed my brother.”

I was a little loose, and wasn't very bothered by the threat he was trying to offer. “ I aint killed no one in this area 'till today, and it was just a little ol’ bandit.”

“ That bandit was my brother, and your draw isn’t gonna do your tail no good against me.”

He drew as did I. My gun reached to my holster and I grabbed the colt. The hammer was back and I fired. The first shot hit the man in the heart, but he wasn't done. I pulled back the cold hammer and aimed the smooth handle in his direction and fired again. It hit the man in the same spot and he hit the floor.  The man was tall and stout but his joints where unable to move as well as mine. I knew this town had no use for a gunslinger so I ran out the door. My dun was startled but I hoped onto him and ran out this town. I knew now that Chancellor Riggin was now a name for a gunslinger.

,,,

Got a good little story brewing here. Couple misplaced commas that made me reread the sentence to get the right feel, but interested in where you will take this series. I liked how you incorporated the dialouge to have the feel of that time frame...off to the next one.
