Roger exited the Boeing 737 around 4am following his five and a half hour flight from Baltimore. Although he felt quite tired and disoriented from the long flight, nervous anticipation filled his stomach as if a hundred butterflies fluttered within. He thought constantly about Alisa, or "SaturnGal1977", as she was known online.
For six months Roger and Alisa have spent countless nights at their computer screens, telling each other their secrets, desires and life stories. Numerous telephone and voice chat sessions became quite frequent as well. The two had developed an intense long-distance friendship in this short time. They engaged in very intimate exchanges night after night, as if they were life-long companions. Yet feelings bordering on apprehension followed him throughout San Diego Airport as he made his way to the baggage claim area.
Because his flight had very few passengers, Roger immediately spotted his distinctive cyan-colored 1960's-era suitcase as he approached the whiny carousel. With his luggage by his feet and laptop computer bag still around his shoulder, he mustered the courage to call Alisa on his cell. "Call me as soon as you arrive in San Diego. I don't care what ungodly hour it is", echoed in his mind from their last conversation the previous evening. What the hell am I doing in San Diego? This is crazy. I never did anything like this, he thought as he fumbled with his cell phone. "Uh, hey there, it's me. How are ya?......Yeah, I just got my luggage. I, I'm sorry about calling you so late, the plane was delayed like two hours. Shitty icy weather at BWI.....I, I know, sweetheart, I ap, appreciate it v, very much......Y, yeah, I'm a little nervous about this I guess", Roger stuttered. She lived within ten minutes of the airport, and would be on her way within a matter of minutes to pick him up. She told him she'd been awake all night, and how she couldn't stop thinking about him. The nervousness and knots in his stomach intensified as he stepped outside to wait next to the bus stop, as his friend had asked. Fifteen minutes later a white Saturn stopped in front of the bust stop; it's female driver looked Roger over and smiled. "The trunk's open, Roger. So awesome to finally see ya!" Alisa yelled from the car as Roger nearly stepped in front of a speeding taxi quite obtusely. His weary, restless mind was not paying much attention to the fact that he needed to cross two lanes to reach her. "My my, looks like I need to wake ya up", she said with a somewhat giddy tone. Oh ****, I'm as nervous as a freaking school girl as it is, and now I'm making a total ass out of myself. I am not used to flying across the country to meet a woman! This is insane; these words scrolled through his brain as he closed the trunk and made himself comfortable in the passenger's seat. "Nice to see ya. Wow, I can't believe it! Finally!" he told her. Alisa fiddled with an iPod on her console as Roger greeted her. "Hungry Eyes", a song that they both enjoyed and listened to during their many chat sessions, began to play at a low volume. An awkward silence about one minute in duration ensued. She was pleasantly surprised when Roger kissed her hand, then gave her a hug. They embraced as the song played. Roger's shyness subsided, and he began singing to the music as the Saturn began it's short drive. "There's an all-night cafe on Washington, which is one block from my place. Wanna go grab something to eat and chat?" she inquired. "Yeah, I'd like that." Roger replied with a relaxed smile. Suddenly it felt as if this was not their first face to face encounter; this felt so familiar and so comfortable. He stroked her hair, then they held hands as Alisa drove out of the airport. All those nights of seductive, romantic chats are coming to fruition. This is great, he thinks as he looks at the bright San Diego city skyline. His timid arrival in California was shattered rather quickly. The ice has been broken. Copyright 2007 D.K. Phoenix {moscomment} |
