The clouds drifted by, tearing along the sky in a deceptively slow track across nature. Wide, innocent eyes traced the path of the fluffy behemoths traversing the heavens, following every movement. The eyes gazed in rapture at the confections of the sky, devouring the very sight.
Soon, the delicate pink eyelids drooped over the wide pools of youth and the eyes soon saw another world. This world was beautiful in the oddities, perfect in the imperfections, grand in the mundane. Smooth lanes flowed like honey across the country side, sliding over the land like a river.
Beside the lane stood a young boy, beckoning excitedly towards the child. The child looked about herself and began seeing the beauty of the strange land. The boy looked towards her and reached for her hand. His fingers entwined with hers as he began to run, delighting in the wonder on her face. The boy tossed his head back as he ran, abandoning himself to the joy of living and breathing. His thick brown hair ruffled in the breeze made by his flight. His flashing blue eyes snapped and sparked with exuberance. He brought his head back down and turned a wondering eye over the girl beside him.
Her face was elfin in its perfection. A small upturned nose blended smoothly into an arched brow. Her creamy complexion showed the perfection of youth, but her eyes spoke of the future woman who was coming to life within her. Her fine hair flew away from her face, catching and trapping the sunlight in the golden strands.
Sliding her hand free of the young boy’s, she began to spin, flinging her arms outward and reveling in living. Her feet barely skimmed the supple grass, carrying her round the revolutions. She tipped her head back and began to spin faster, feet dancing over the earth faster and faster, touching briefly before taking off again. Her dance was a beautiful celebration of life and living.
As she began to slow, her foot caught briefly. Her eyes, shut in joy, snapped open in wide-eyed fear of falling. Instead of plummeting to the ground, her feet stepped on air. She peered around herself, eyes widening in joy and awed wonder as clouds swirled around her. Her dance changed from a simple celebration of life to a joyous outpouring of her soul. Fluffy confections swirled around her stage among the clouds.
Calm blue eyes tracked her beautiful expression of life across the sky. Her hair became a halo around her head and her green eyes sparkled with emerald intensity. As she slowly floated to the ground, still celebrating her very life, he approached her, coming to stand beside her as she came to a stop, almost resting in his arms. Cobalt eyes met emerald with an understand born of dreams and with certainty that defied all words or actions.
Her hand slowly moved to cup his cheek, her eyes rippling like a clear pool with a clear stream trickling into it from far above. Her heart knew what was happening and her yet child-like faith in her heart did not question the decisions of her heart. She slid her hand off his face and leaned her head against his shoulder. Her hair, made of spun gold, fanned across his shirt.
His eyes gazed at her resting head with wonder. His heart swelled with an unfamiliar emotion to his young spirit. That very same heart began to beat faster as she looked into his eyes again.
“Are you my prince charming?” the young girl queried in a soft voice, her eyes searching his face. Her gaze memorized his face, burning every detail in her innocent mind.
He smiled softly. “Only if you want me to be. It is your dream, after all.” He murmured, looking into her eyes.
“Sounds good to me.” She sighed and rested her head on his shoulder again. Then her head snapped up again, her face transfixed with a look of desperate sadness. “No, I can’t go! Please don’t let me leave. Keep me here!”
She felt a deep tugging inside her mind and she faintly felt the drip of rain on her face, though she knew there were no clouds in this paradise. As the world around her slid away, she clutched the boy close.
“You must go.” He said, tipping her face up to look at him. “Dreams are merely that. Dreams…”
The world dissolved rapidly, taking the boy with it. As she felt the pin point pressure of rain on her face, she woke to a summer shower. She stared at the sky with its friendly clouds dropping a flood on her. She closed her eyes, clinging to shreds of her dream.
Suddenly, the rain ceased to fall on her, causing her to open her wide eyes in curiosity. Emerald pools of innocence met smooth, calm cobalt lakes. The boy holding an umbrella over her met her eyes as a smile slid over his face. An answering smile blossomed over the face of the young girl, smoothing the wrinkle of sadness away.
