The year was 3000. The world was a mess. The ozone was as thin as a piece of paper, and every country was in the midst of war. Poverty was like a huge black blanket covering the world. I was luckily born into a wealthy family.

My father was a famous inventor and my mother is an actor. My father died when I was fifteen and gave me the map to his latest invention, an ozone thickener. On the back it was written if I didn’t find it in one years time the world would turn into a gigantic ball of fire because the ozone would have completely disappeared.

It had been nine months. I only had three months to find the hidden device and save the earth. I had looked everywhere for months and the last place to look was in the Bermuda Triangle, the place where every ship has sunk, every plane crashed, and every helicopter disappeared. This would be a problem for me. If I went I could die. If I didn’t go everyone on the Earth could die.

I faced the decision of death or death.

....

I'm just starting this series, but the first thing I asked is why would his father hide the invention and give him a map? I don't understand

Hidden

He hid the invention because he knew he would die soon. He made a map and before he died gave it to his son so he could find it and use it to save the earth. Hope this clears that up.
