Ashes
I met her in an apocalyptic field. That was back when the earth had just started to crack. It seemed like she was all alone waiting for the sky to fall…………….
Now we sit here waiting for it to die. The planet is fading away with time. It’s weird that I met her in this horrible period of life. Maybe if I could have met her sooner something could have been. But there was no time for that. It just wasn’t meant to be. So as we waited we told ourselves stories of all our past experiences. She had many, many stories to tell. And they were all very interesting. She never bored me at any second. She was so beautiful though. I couldn’t help noticing it. She had the most beautiful eyes. I lost myself in them.
Fires began to break out beside us. But as the red glow lighted her face she looked even more stunning. We were now surrounded by fire. But I didn’t feel scared with her. I felt safe with her I wanted to stay inside the ring of flames with her forever. But we started to burn. I could feel my skin melting.
I told her to tell me another story. I didn’t want her to realize that her skin was melting off. She told me of a story of her adventures somewhere far away from here. She was a very intelligent person. It’s just a shame it had to end like this. As I listened to her beautiful voice I began to cry. I could see her skin melting away. But I never thought anything less of her. She never would have been anything less. With her distorted face she realized why I was crying. She began to cry also. She told me she was going to look for me on the other side. She said all her life she wasted on someone else but she said she wanted to start over in the next life. I told her I’d be waiting for her in the afterlife. Usually I never smiled much but I knew I’d be waiting for her with a smile. Only she would get to see me smile.
I reached out to touch her remaining hair. It felt so beautiful but I began to lose strength and my arms turned into wax. I told her just to believe that none of this was real, and that we would be together soon. We both looked like horrid creatures but we held each other as we burned slowly into, eventually, a pile of ashes.
