Here in darkness I lie In bed beside truth Eyes half closed I desire to reveal Thinking of myself With flimsy honor I bend now opposite So easy in deceit Close your eyes tight For I shall whisper Words that will please Don't risk a glance Or seek validation My efforts are great But my veneer is thin I never wish to feed you What you wouldn't digest Help me by believing The fraud that I became My intent is not to harm I thought only of myself If I were to be so bold To claim self-esteem To pull you into light I could claim mistake Corrosive is that tale I'd be lying to us both Unable to fool the con Or to be so careless Kind imposter that I am Instead, I will conceal Copyright 2008 Barbie Dorrough |
