Don’t talk to me as if you know meYou hover around the periphery not daring to come close You speak of me like a goddess or angel So sinless and so pure But if you were to be so bold And risk close association You could see that I am neither of those Insidious misconception Inside my inner sanctum I am no more angelic than you No less fierce No less tainted It is convenient for you to idolize To believe me better than I am It satisfies your need Fulfills your expectation But I have no desire to pacify you Nor to provide you with a facade Instead I bide my time Daring you to approach Taunting you with revelation Amused by your fanciful notions I know something you have not accepted Because I’m aware of who I am Just beyond your willingness to see Someone far more intriguing lies beneath Copyright 2008 Barbie Dorrough |
