Vladimir clenched his fist and scowled. The sudden pressure change in his gloved hand released the acoustic bomb from his cruiser. The enormous power of the shockwave distorted the atmosphere between his craft and his foe who had lost over 1000 kilometers to him in the last few minutes. The bomb smashed into his enemy’s small, round ship and swatted it forward, increasing the distance between them. This wasn’t what Vladimir expected. He was used to seeing his enemies’ craft shatter like glass into a million pieces. He craved the excitement of flying through the remnants of the spaceships and what was left of their occupants.

Vladimir redoubled his resolve and pressed both hands against the large translucent canopy, accelerating his blue oblong ship back to its cruising speed. The dot in his display grew larger until the clear bubble craft and its three crew members came into view.

“I won’t make the same mistake twice,” he broadcast to his formidable and elusive target. “The next volley will not push you forward, Alliel. I will attack from above and you will be crushed against the surface of the planet. Do you hear me?”

One of the three identical children in the outclassed, yet highly maneuverable, and sturdy Swiftpod, waved his hand over a porous panel, cutting off Vladimir’s transmission. All three passengers had ginger colored hair, freckled faces, and each wore identical green jumpsuits with white shoes. Although the Swiftpod was only four feet in diameter, the three children floated comfortably in a sitting position, unattached to chairs or straps. Separately, they were Radun, the pilot, Ravin, the navigator and Ravor, who was responsible for ordinance. Together, they were Alliel.

“He’s gaining on us,” Ravor said. Ravor was the only one of the three faced in the direction of the evil looking craft that attacked them. “If he maneuvers above us to attack, like he said, he’ll destroy us.”

Ravor flung his hand in the direction of Vladimir’s craft. Light blue energy waves slipped off the Swiftpod and slammed into Vladimir’s ship with little effect.

“It’s not slowing him, Radun,” Ravor said in a high pitched voice. “We have to use the Pulse rocket. Nothing else will stop him.”

Ravin peered to his left, and said excitedly. “There, Radun. The ocean. Take us there. It’s our only chance.”

Radun moved his hands as one, waving them in the direction of the dark ocean. The Swiftpod obeyed his command and darted straight down the fifty kilometers to the surface of the water. They flew only millimeters above the huge waves just off the shoreline.

“What stupid maneuver was that?” Vladimir said, turning his helix fighter, easily catching up with the slower Swiftpod. He flew his ship directly above the clear bubble, staying parallel to it as it glided over the rough seas.

“Those fools,” he said, and coughed slightly as green mucous oozed out of his ear, and into the side of his mouth. “They’ve positioned themselves exactly where I want them.”

“You stupid, silly children. Take a deep breath.” he yelled into the communications vent. “It will be your last.”

“I’m picking his weapons up on the display,” Ravor said. “He’s about to launch another bomb. Do something now, Radun. Hurry!”

Radun reacted, flipping his legs up and behind him while pressing on the canopy. The Swiftpod dove beneath the waves and headed down into the water toward the floor of the ocean, a half-kilometer from the surface.

Green scales flew off Vladimir’s bumpy skin as he squeezed his hands, releasing two tremendous acoustic bombs into the ocean above the Swiftpod. The enormous force of the explosion blasted the water upwards and apart, exposing the spacecraft and its hapless occupants. The blast shoved the bubble into the seabed, embedding it in a dark brown muck, and then the water rushed back into the cavernous hole, covering the Swiftpod and the boys.

“Now!” Radun yelled to Ravor. Ravor lifted his hands to the translucent ceiling. The Pulse rocket took shape above the craft. The freckled faced boys watched in awe as it launched straight up toward the ocean’s surface, and Vladimir’s fighter.

Vladimir eyes grew wide as he watched the air bubbles forming beneath his craft. He knew it could only be the turbulence caused by a nuclear Pulse rocket. He rotated the Helix and shot away from the ocean at full speed, but he knew it was hopeless. He had only enough fuel to evade the missile for three more days, but he knew it had an inexhaustible nuclear fuel supply and would eventually catch his ship and destroy it.

He reached for a handful of toads and shoved them in his mouth. He hated Alliel. Perhaps he could avoid death, but he needed to concentrate. The delicious taste of the toads helped him think. He had three days. Perhaps he could come up with something. He pulled a toad bone between his pointed teeth and threw it onto the floor of the ship.

The Swiftpod floated to the surface of the ocean, and once they determined Vladimir had fled; they flew in the opposite direction. Ten minutes later, the Swiftpod landed near a large castle fortress.

Radun, Ravin, and Ravor stepped out of the sphere and walked up to the handsome owner of the fortress, Lerus Vox, who stood, arms crossed, waiting for the child astronauts. He jutted his chin forward and laughed at the unremarkable red haired children.

“Very clever to use children, Alliel.”

The three boys formed a circle and wrapped their arms around one another in a huddle. Seconds later, their bodies joined, as Radun’s arm pushed through Ravor’s chest and Ravin’s leg melted into Radun’s head. The mass slowly formed together and reshaped into a tall, beautiful woman. She turned and threw her arms around Lerus Vox, kissing him passionately.

“It was clever, wasn’t it Lerus. It was so clever that now I am afraid that poor General Vladimir Soo is no longer among the living. He let his defenses drop at the sight of small boys.”

“I have your next assignment, Alliel. Do you want to hear it?”

“Not right now, love. Let’s go inside and relax together.

Lerus smiled as Alliel hooked her arm around his and directed him toward the fortress door. Once inside, Lerus led Alliel to his bedroom. They positioned themselves directly under a fixture in the ceiling.

After they removed their clothes, Lerus passed his hand over a small console. A bright beam shone from the ceiling and bathed them with its light. Lerus wrapped his arms around Alliel and kissed her. Alliel moaned while rocking her head from side to side. Soon Lerus did the same. The low-pitched hum of the light lowered to a barely audible whistle as the light intensified. Alliel and Lerus heads morphed together, the silhouette of his nose and chin poking out the back of her head. They moaned loudly when a tremendous flash melted their bodies into one. A few moments later, the light extinguished, and their bodies separated, leaving both spent and lying on the floor.

Alliel smiled at the exhausted Lerus.

“You can tell me about my next assignment now that I’m relaxed, Lerus.”

“Yes, that was refreshing Alliel. Your next job will be in Khaleen. The Emir of Khaleen died over the weekend and his four year old daughter, Shaeel, ascended to the throne in his place. Our government does not agree with this particular monarchy’s philosophy, and has asked me to eliminate the daughter. Now I am ordering you to assassinate this child. She is harmless now, but someday that could change.”

“When do I leave?’

“Now,” he said.

Alliel flew off in a different craft, one more suited for stealth than combat. She landed several kilometers from the palace and when she was within a few meters of the security perimeter she switched her suit to cloaking mode. She easily slipped into the palace’s open entryway and scaled the wall leading to the princess’ bedroom. The four year old sat alone on the floor, playing with a small hover toy. Alliel smiled at the child’s pretty black hair as it flowed from one shoulder to the next when she pushed the toy through the air.

The child’s back was to her as Alliel aimed the weapon at the child’s head. She switched on the laser and was about to fire when the child spun around and shot Alliel with a large light beam gun. Alliel’s head exploded in all directions from the blast. Shaeel wiped some blood from her cheek with her index finger, placed it in her mouth, and sucked it clean.

“This is much better than toads,” the little girl said.

Her body changed a dark green and grew two meters. Several scales fell off his skin when General Vladimir Soo grabbed his sides and laughed loudly as he stared at his sworn enemy’s headless body.

....

this is the first short story thats given me a boner...

jk but seriously....this was pretty good. It flowed really well and held my interest til the end. I feel like alot of the action was too condensed though, especially in the first paragraph.

one other thing that bothered me a little was that Alliel took the shape of the kids because "He let his defenses drop at the sight of small boys.” but earlier you made it apparent that vladmir knew it was alliel he was fighting. "He hated Alliel." i would try to avoid inconsistencies like that in future stories (which I would be very interested in reading btw).

the ending was totally unexpected and very good. I was wondering how he managed to escape the nuclear pulse rocket though.

the technology was all very original and imaginative. keep it up

Not bad

I am not a real big fan of science fiction but enjoyed your story nonetheless.
